Simple fix turned into nightmare

Long story short..

95' Maxima with 240k.. Bought it a year ago. Body in great shape for its age. Mechanically perfect except for a small coolant and oil leak..

Take the car in for a water pump job.. Figured they could removed the timing cover to access the water pump easier and reseal the timing cover since that's where the oil was pissing out from..

Dude screws the whole engine up.. I take it elsewhere and have them swap the motor..

No more coolant leak but now there's an oil leak from somewhere and at cold start up the shifter is a bit hard to move out of park.. From 1st to 2nd it's not very smooth either.

Once the vehicle warms up the shifter is easy to move and the 1st to 2nd shift is normal..

Any ideas?

The sensor on the driver side strut brace checks out ok. And no check engine lights..
