Text messages

I have an Iphone 7 and all seems to work fine with receiving messages. The system alerts me there is a message and it will read it for me however, when I pick one of the responses and hit send i get a "Failed" alert on the dash. Does this happen to anybody?

Also is there any way to respond to text messages by speaking your response instead of choosing the few choices they give you?

Thanks.

when you reply hit the microphone button on the wheel and you can speak a message. Works ok I guess but gets some words wrong sometimes.

When I hit the microphone button it asks me for a command.

When the system reads the text to you, at the end it asks would you like to reply or end, or something to that effect. When it asks i hit the mic and say reply, and it lets me say my message. It'll essentially walk you through it.

That's the way mine works with Apple CarPlay. Not with the regular Nissan Connect

From what I've heard/experienced, Apple users aren't able to respond to messages, only receive them.

All of a sudden starting two days ago when I select TEXT MESSAGE, the screen message states, "This Motorola device XT1585 is not supported"

I deleted the Bluetooth profile from my phone AND from the on board system. I selected Text Message on the screen and my texts appeared. Good to go. Not!! Two hours later, I'm back to the same nonsense.

I wonder if iMessage causes any issues with this? Try turning that off and see if it fixes anything.

I am having this issue with my 2017 Platinum and iPhone 6S. The car will read me a text just fine. But when I try to reply it will say failed every time. Even when using the standard responses like okay or I'm driving now. It happens while I am driving and when I am at a complete stop. This is when I am connected directly with BT. I am not using Car Play as it's too limited right now. I have checked all the settings on the phone and all seems to be proper.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

i have the same issue. Just doesn't communicate with our phones to respond with text. I have the iPhone 6s as well. Only way I've found to send text is through CarPlay, which I agree, it's limited. Don't even bother with it. If there is a fix I'd like to hear as well.

I could be wrong, but I am fairly certain that Apple restricts sending texts without CarPlay/Siri.

I did an online chat with Nissan Connect Services this morning and they told me that iPhone are not compatible with Sending SMS messages via the BT system in a Maxima. She directed me to the link below which shows the features that are compatible with an iPhone. Looks like all versions of the iPhone are not compatible. Looks like most Androids are compatible. So I don't know whose fault this is, Apple or Nissan or both.

I called my dealer to ask about this. I have an iPhone 6s. He said Nissan doesn't want you texting and driving. ??? But evidently it works with android so what he said doesn't make sense. Kinda irritated by this.

That's a beyond crazy statement. Obviously, the ability to reply to a text message is there in the software. So it all depends on what kind of phone you have. Androids work, apparently, and iPhones don't. This has to be a Nissan based limitation as my prior car had this ability with my 6S. At the very least, the system should know if you have an iOS based phone and not make the option available if you can't use it. But apparently this has been going on for years if my quick Google search is accurate.
