Passport 8500 does do one thing better than the V1

It attaches to it's window mount more easily!

I just bought a used 8500 for the wife who's Uniden detector was close to achieving antique status. The mounting system is simple and easy to use. It's not a problem to pop the 8500 in and out if you want to hide the detector after parking. Just push the button and slide the tab out. Putting it back up is just as easy...push the top button, slide the tab into the slot and release the button.

I avoid removing the V1 in my car from it's windshield mount because of how awkward it is to get back in. It has to be level and aligned exactly on each side before it'll go in. I think it's time for me to upgrade to the latest version though.

Jim....I agree completely with the mounting setup for the Passport. My lady just bought me the latest Valentine the week after I sent you my Passport and let me tell you that there is no doubt it is the better unit. I plan to hard wire it and mount the concealed display unit within the next few weeks. Take care!

What's so hard about mounting/un-mounting the V1??

To dis-mount, I hold the V1, thumb on the bottom, fingers on top. As I pull out the V1, the fingers on top are pushing down the tab to release the V1. Done.

When mounting, I tilt it in. Mount the left side in the groove of the windshield mount, whil ehte right side is hanging down a little. Then just push the right side up. Click. It's secured.

I do this all with one hand.
