Long time caller; first time NOT GIVING A


Anyways; went though a long list of why my car had starting and cutting off problems and i have gotten to the last thing i'm willing to try before i scrap my baby. The fuel Pump.


I have done my research here on the forum; but every image of instructions on how to do it has broken images. I have already taken the back seat out, but have trouble locating the pump exactly. Is it right in the middle? Closer to the actual cap?

it's under the plate that has the 4 screws and wires coming out of it, pull that off and you will see the lines and wires going into the tank thats the sending unit, take the screws out and the whole thing will pull out

 

also pull the codes from the ECU and it will tell you what is wrong more then likely

 

I don't have a sending unit but I do have a fuel pump if you need one. Pm me if interested.

 

This thing is it right? I thought it was but was not positive. Do you have to remove the back of the rear seats too? It is kind of cramped back there. I see two more nuts out of view.

 

yep thats it the back part should pull out with a bolt on the bottom on each side and a couple along the bottom when you pull the carpet up and the two hinges for the backs, just take the outer ones and slide the seat off the middle, then you can just pull the brace forward and get the back two screws

 

Yes that pic clearly shows the fuel pump cover plate. Removing the upper part of the rear seat will make it easy to get to.
Do you have any reason to believe the fuel pump isn’t working or isn’t suppling proper pressure? If so check the wires headed to the pump (under the seat) and the wires that are connected to the contacts on the top of the pump housing (after removing the cover but before you take the pump out). these fuel pumps are known to burn out. What happens is they get hot after a few years of running and then blow the fuse. After the pump sits for a while, you can put in a new fuse and it will run, but will blow again when the pump overheats again. I'm on my 4th fuel pump at 202,000mi. Also, not a good habit to run you tank down past a 1/4 tank. The pump needs to be totally submersed in gas to keep it cool.
Also, check fuel pressure w/ test kit.
