I just picked up my 2016 Max this week... extended warranty question
...and so far, I love it.
It's an SR with 31,700 miles. It has the balance of the 3yr/36k factory warranty, and I would like to get an extended "bumper to bumper" warranty for added peace of mind--considering the major technology upgrades in cars these days. I'm coming from a 2002 Max SE that had 204,000 miles, so the 2016 looks, feels, drives like a spaceship. However, I may have to take it to the dealer soon as I've noticed two issues thus far:
1. When using the audio system, there is a buzzing sound coming from the PS front speaker in the dashboard. the buzzing occurs at the rhythm of whatever audio is playing--if that makes sense? It happens too when listening to AM talk radio, so I know the speaker is causing whatever is loose to buzz.
2. I notice a vibration at time at highway speed. Seems to kick in at 70/80mph. Sometimes I think it may be that the wheels need a balance or maybe is just the taught SR suspension and/or crappy Pennsylvania roads!
Now, on to my question regarding extended warranties...
Does anyone have an extended warranty and/or has bought one after buying a used Max? Does anyone have any experience with Nissan's extended warranty program? Another comparable plan I have found is from Endurance. I would be looking at doing a 4yr/60k mile term or maybe longer depending on price.
Also, let me hear for you 8th gen owners out there on what I should get checked at the dealer now while the factory warranty is still in effect!
Thanks to all...

when I got my new 2017 Max the cheapest extended warranty that they offered me was $2.500 , it was too much money so I didn’t take it , once my car starts giving me issues that go beyond $1000 I would try to get rid of it. Your speaker noise might me something that u might tackle yourself because I don’t think the dealership is going to care. Hope I’m wrong. It is happening with my wife’s CX 5 under warranty and so far no luck, u might need to take it to one of those places where they specialize in radios. It might be a busted speaker. The vibration must be wheel balance. Hope this helps and enjoy ur MAx
I'm hoping a wheel balance is all it is. As for the speaker buzz, I may try contact the dealer first and see if something this would be covered under the warranty. If not, then I might try and tackle myself. I recently found and downloaded a copy of the 2016 Service Manual. I used to have one for my 2002 Max and it helped a lot when taking off interior trim pieces. It appears the speaker cover on the PS dash is a separate part, so hopefully it's not too difficult.
Sorry bout the buzzes and rattles, that seems to be the #1 issue with this car, especially the SR trim.
I know it's nice to have the peace of mind that you won't have a huge bill if your transmission decides to blow up at 50,001 miles. But statistically, you'll probably do better if you do not buy the warranty. If they are offering you such a warranty for $2500 (for example), that means the average person is going to spend much less than that in repairs over that period of time.
The extended warranty, unlike the factory warranty is a big money maker. Psyche class 101 says most people would like to know what's gonna happen in advance, even if it's bad news... than deal with uncertainty

Check the wheels for road rash. Unfortunately, they can bend slighty after a hard curbing. (Ask me how I know) If that checks out then is seems a rebalance and a rotation should be done next. Are the tires new? One could be out of round.
Welcome aboard!

Couldn’t find the 2017 model year, but this is where I downloaded the 2016. I imagine there isn’t any difference between ‘16 & ‘17 since they are the same generation.

As for the extended warranties, I’m getting quotes on both the Nissan Security+ and one from a company called Endurance. I post back when I get numbers. I’m not sure exactly what I want to do here until I dig into the fine details and small print.
Here is a good dealer to get a Nissan Security Plus warranty price quote from.
http://nissansrextendedservicecontracts.com/
Don't forget, the Nissan Extended warranty date starts from the date the vehicle was placed in service from it's original owner...not from when the 3yr/36K warranty expires.
I purchased the warranty from this dealer.

That's good to know! I didn't realize the extended warranty starts from the original owner. So let me ask this... What's the benefit of buying an extended warranty BEFORE the factory 3/36 expires? Cost? Is it cheaper to get it while the factory 3/36 is still in effect? However, I did check the stipulations for buying the warranty as a "preowned" vehicle and it begins on the date I purchased as well as the mileage at the time of purchase. So for me, that would be 2-20-18 @ 31,600 miles.
Another question: Why is this Nissan warranty program only being offered only by Nissan of Santa Rosa, or Jim Bone Nissan--as it's called when I Google it? Why these guys?
To answer your most recent question, If you buy an extended while the car is still under factory, the thinking is that the factory warrantee will cover most issues initially, leaving the extended un-tapped until the end of it's life. If you have no warrantee, it's likely possible you are siting on problems that will be a claim in the near few months. So in short, the gamble for them is minimizing claim exposure. On your side, yes it should be cheaper if you get it earlier in the life of the car then if you wait until after the factory W expires. At least that's how it should work.
Hi All,
Below are my quotes for the Nissan Security+ Extended Warranty. I’m still waiting for quotes from Endurance.
60 month / 75,000 miles
$1,315
72 month / 100,000 miles
$1,995
84 month / 100,000 miles
$2,575
So, given that these quotes are based on extending the factory 3/36. And, given the fact that I have 32,000 miles on the car now (and that the car was first sold and titled on 7-15-15) the original 3 year warranty will be up on 7-15-18. I drive on average 15,000 miles per year, so that's 1,250 miles per month. Since I'm about to turn 32,000 on the odometer, I estimate the 36k portion of the original warranty will expire sometime in mid-June. So all things being equal, I have until the end of May to decide
So, given all this, the 60 month extension will give me 2 more years/39,000 miles more coverage. The 72 month extension will essentially give me another "3/36" so to speak, and the 84 month will extend another 48 months or 64,000 miles.
Thoughts?

If zero deductible, that's a reasonable deal. Some states regulate the insurance racket, so the price becomes very hard to negotiate in those situations.
I put on a 100,000m warrantee on my 07 back in the day for about $1200, zero deductible, starting at 21000m on the clock, note I still had about 12 months left on original W. By the time I traded it in I had well over $13,000 in repairs done with the extended warrantee. It got so bad the last claim they came back with "this is the last" based on the value of the car at that time (BB around $7000) and that they had actually paid almost twice that in repairs. I only had a few months left, hadn't even got to 90k by then, but I got it. I ended up trading it in, I had had enough.
If you go to 84 month, you will have peace of mind for 4 years of payments...for me that is paramount, it's just too bad you didn't work it into the initial purchase, because that's how you negotiate the price down...get them to knock a few hundred off the car itself, since you're getting the warrantee.

MadMax: Yes, those quotes are with a zero deductible.
ALRONDON: I'm in PA, so not sure about CA. The program is valid at all Nissan Dealerships in US, except Florida.
Well, my car went to the dealer yesterday for the issues listed in my initial post. Also, I too noticed the slight driver's seat fore/aft wobble and had then check that out as well. In addition, the plastic chrome tip on the passenger rear window switch -- on the master power window panel -- was chipped underneath. I could feel it every time I used the window. Anyway, the dealer is replacing the driver seat (tracking assembly I presume) and master window switch under warranty. I have a loaner now. They checked for the vibration that seems to being around 70-75mph, but they couldn't duplicate. They will road test again and see. I authorized them to do a road-force balance of all 4 tires/wheels, so well see. I have a feeling the stock Goodyear tires are crap, and/or there is a rim problem.
Anyway, with things like happening now (being covered under warranty) it's seems safe to say I should definitely look at extending the factory warranty.

It sounds good, but has anyone had any experience with this Nissan Security + program bought in CA? It says valid in all states but just to reconfirm . Does it cover the new electronics not listed individually on the page like the all around cameras, the intelligent cruise system, the power sunshade cover, the sonar system. I did not see them listed... just a thought
The warranty is backed by Nissan, not the selling dealer. Do you think Nissan North America would let the dealer make false claims about their warranty?
Here is what is covered in the Security+Plus warranty:

Update:
Got my car back yesterday and all appears to be resolved. The vibration at 70mph was corrected with a 4-wheel road force balance. Everything else was good, so if the balance didn't correct the vibration, the only culprit left is tires.
While on the phone with the Nissan Service Adviser, I asked about the Nissan extended plans. He said the Nissan plan is very good, but also mentioned another company called Warranty Solutions.
https://www.warrantysolutions.com/
He said Warranty Solutions (WS) is equivalent (or a hair better) to the Nissan extended warranty. He mentioned an example of a steering wheel position motor going bad on a vehicle (not sure what model). He mentioned it not being covered under the Nissan plan, but it was covered under the WS plan. Now, I have no idea of the circumstances of the vehicle in question. I’m just passing along what the adviser told me. I checked out the WS site and they do not sell direct to consumers. You have to purchase these warranties at the dealer. The adviser also mentioned the WS plan was a little cheaper vs. the Nissan plan.
As for my driver’s seat, they replaced the entire seat assembly, as well as the master power window switch (due to the plastic chrome tip covering cracking on one of the toggle switches). I’m surprised that actually replaced it—all under 3/36.
My car has just under 32,000 miles, so my 3/36 will expire in 4,000 miles or July 15, 2018, whichever comes first. Has anyone else heard of WS? Experiences? I’m planning on going back to the dealer to get more details.

This is where I got my quotes for the Nissan Extended Warranty (Security+).
http://nissansrextendedservicecontra...iAAEgL6YfD_BwE
Is there where you guys got yours?
I have it narrowed down to two choices:
84 month / 100,000 miles
$2,575
-or-
96 month / 120,000 miles
$3,235
Both options are zero deductible and these plans extend the 3/36 (as previously mentioned). I closely matched the number of months with the average number of miles driven a year... in my case roughly 15,000 per year. I'm really leaning towards the 96/120. It's "only" another $660 with another year of coverage and/or another 20k miles. You have the option of a 0% interest payment plans too, which I might take advantage of. You can always pay more if you want or pay it off in-full at any time.
After thinking about it more, and seeing RickSmith's, attachment which confirms including the aforementioned part, it seems extending the factory 3/36 is the only logical choice?
