Swapped Out Gauge Faces
Swapped Out Gauge Faces
So, I always prefered the white faces over the black faces on these older dials.
When I was at my local salvage yard, I found a Maxima that had the white ones.
As I did not want to just simply swap the entire gauge cluster for fear of incorrect miles on the odometer, I just simply swapped out the black faces in favor of the white faces.
It was easy enough to do, except for one thing. Now, I've got a fuel gauge and temperature gauge that is off by a few notches.
For a while, my MPH gauge was off too, but I was able to correct it by comparing it with an OBD dongle and the app Torque. Now the MPH gauge is good. I don't see any issues with the RPM.
I think what happened was when pulling the needles off the cluster, I accidentally pulled out the shaft that they fit onto.
So my question now is, how do I make the fuel gauge and temperature gauge accurate again?
I just simpy find the white faces easier to read than the black ones.

Nevermind I figured it out. I was playing with my spare gauge cluster and it looks like the shafts have a grooved end that only goes into the cluster one way. I think I had accidently put the shafts in upside down without realizing it. Will correct the problem tomorrow on my next day off.

Cool! I can post pictures of my work if successfully fixed. But question, if Photobucket doesn't always work, how else can I post pics That was my method a long time ago when racing RC cars was using Photobucket.
I haven't finished it yet cause I was leaving on vacation, currently visiting folks in Florida. But I found out that the shafts that the needles plug on to have one end that is grooved, and that grooved in fits into the cluster. The needles plug onto the smoother end. I had accidentally pulled out the shafts along with the needles and didn't realize this when putting them back in.
So I think once done correctly, they should read accurately.
