Hey Gang,

I replaced my Master Cylinder with a new Centric 130.42408 (4 wheel ABS) for my 99 SE-L. ($66 Rockauto shipped) The old MC was leaking into the Power Booster and it seems the consensus is replace the Power Booster as well, when brake fluid is introduced. It's just a matter of time.

So now I'm researching Power Boosters, there isn't much "Out There".

I see mostly A1 Cardone Remanufactured and read mixed reviews for all kinds of cars but no 4th Gen reviews.

Rockauto also offers a "Prior" USA rebuilt for $28 more. Can't find anything about them to judge if they are a candidate.

NAPA, Advance Auto, and AutoZone have no indications either. And are expensive.

Anybody have any experiences they can share?

The booster is a non-critical part. We do need to step on the brakes harder when in goes out, but we can still stop. Or an air leak can set codes.

The junkyard has cheap, often perfectly useable parts. You might consider installing a used booster.

I'm serious. Not much to lose, and I would rarher use the money for a night out. Should you get a bad booster from the junk yard, the next one is likely to work just fine. Probably not much labor is involved.

 

I have a booster if you want to take the trip and pull it from the car. I'm just too lazy to do so lol

 

Thanks for the perspective J! I'm not doing anything until it does let go. Watch, it lasts another 15 to 20 years! LOL No experienced responses says a lot about these being more reliable than the norm.

Chris, thanks for the offer! If it was apple picking time, maybe I'd make the trip up! Between tolls and gas both ways, probably cheaper at a nearby JY.
