OCTANE BOOSTERS?? (Bad news from work)...
#1
Long story short:
My employer pays for my fuel for work...and with the miles I drive daily, it's a good thing!! However,
thanks to the increasing fuel costs, I was told that they will no longer pay for mid or premium grade gasoline; just basic 87 octane sludge.
SO...
Do these Octane boosters work? Which brand is the best one to get and how do I figure out what octane rating I'll have?
I'm thinking if I pump 87 and add a can of that 108 octane booster stuff that I'll come out around 94-95. Am I doing the math right? Assuming I'm filling an "empty tank". Is it possible to get too high octane for our engines? and what happens then? I know too low knocks big-time.
Thanks.

Why dont you try to work some sort of arrangement where they deduct like 20 cents per gallon from your premium gas? Thats usually about what the difference around here is, if you shop around it can go as low as 15 cents, tho right now gas is going up...

well the octane boosters don't work like they advertise. for example octane 104...that advertises to raise the octane up to 8 points (or something like that). so if u gas up with 87 then your octane rating will prob around 87.8..or close to that. but it doesn't raise it to like 104 like what most people think.

If only it were that easy... No can do. Stupid Exxon even puts the octane grade on the receipt, so I can't even fudge it.

If I remember correctly, Octane boosters don't actually raise octane levels(we're talking about the Octane boosters available at your wal-mart or something), they just reduce the engine's need for octane by removing carbon deposits and such. If you get NOS Off road octane booster, different story...

Dont fudge it, just tell your employer your car needs Premium and you'll pay the difference.
