Gauges lights won't work

As I was driving down the road the gauge lights went out, when I found a safe stopping point, I checked all the fuses and relays and are in good working order.. my dimmer switch does not affect light output at all and all my secondary lights work correctly.. (turn signals, cruise, dummy lights) the gauges have led bulbs in them for the cluster and I tried swapping them around to see if it was just a bad connection and now my gauges lights come on with the key in the ON position but when I try to turn on any exterior lights the gauges go dark.. I'm about to start a job that requires me to drive at night and need help bc I need to see my gauges ....

Sounds like a short somewhere. The gauge lights should not illuminate with the key on and the headlight switch off. Power may be back feeding somewhere and when you turn the light switch on it has nowhere to ground, turning the lights off. I have had to replace my dimmer switch at least once, so I would start there.

I ordered a new stalk today, I plan to upgrade my gxe to fogs, so I ordered a new stalk with fog switch, it should be here in a few days and I'll update.. if that doesn't resolve the issue then I'll get a dimmer switch..
