2002 Maxima vs Honda S2000

In 2004 I was in the market for a car to replace my 91 Honda w/ 240k miles. After all of my research was done it was between the S2K and the 2002 Maxima with a manual. I chose the Maxima because it was more practical. Looking back on that decision it is crazy to see how well the S2K has held up. Both cars were going for about 18k at the time but as we all know the S2K still fetches that price if it is well maintained.

What alternatives did you folks consider before you bought the 5th Gen?

I bought my first car (my max) around 3 years ago, I live in Mexico but I really wanted a 2 door car, some of the cars i wanted were 2 door civics, accords (the one with the continuous tailights), a volkswagen golf wich is whate everyone does here, a 2 door opel astra, and stuff like that, then by mistake I went to a car sale with my dad, saw the max, fell inlove with it, gave money to the dude the same day, payed off like a month after, pretty happy with it, however it needs a lot of work

Gustavo,
Invest some time and I am sure you will have the car running like new. The biggest challenge for me in NY has been the snow and salt which you do not have to deal with. These engines are pretty good if you stay on top of them.

Great mistake. I think you bought the right car.

I bought my 01 in 2007. I also considered: Ford Probe, Acura Integra, Honda Civic, Toyota Camry (all used of varying years). In my area at the time Civics cost almost as much as a Max (same years, comparable mileage). I'm happy with my choice

When I bought my 91 Accord in 1996 I was also considering a manual Integra. Acura was making some great products back then. You made the right choice. The engine in your car is rock solid.

I just wanted a Maxima with a stick. Loved older cars and decided to get one.
Good point on the S2k. Those and really an enthusiast cars from the 90s-2000s hold value.
Especially the 03-04 Cobras.
