How Common is the Main Bearing #1 Knock

The point of this thread is to determine how common the Main Bearing Knock #1 is. (Refer to https://maxima.org/forums/7th-genera...-problems.html)

If you haven't done so already please check for the symptoms and report back with your mileage

I bought a 2k14 motor that's in the middle of going in my 98 (louder exhaust I probably won't even be able to tell) I'm out of the 30day warranty period so I'm stressing and SOL if my engine has this issue and we'll see how long it lasts...

No knock with 72000 miles. Good luck with your install, but I think you are overly worrying about it.

Thanks for your reply and I hope you're right, I just saw the thread and it seems like the only people who replied had the issue so I'm hoping to hear from more like yourself and put my mind at ease

What's your occupation? Good to see that these engines go high miles, my minty 15k should last another 20years as long as I'm defect free. I'm feeling a lot better already, reading that thread about the TSB just made my stomach sink. 21yr old college student finishing up 1st year of college I don't need to spend any more money on this car for a long long time

I am an "IT guy" And the best advice I can give....do your maintenance routines promptly and consistently; Then don't abuse it. I know many people who place more value on the "appearance" of their whip over the care and feeding of it. That is 100% their choice. But like your PC or Phone, if you run the device at 100% cpu and disk IO all the time, never do any cleanup; OS updates or Anti Virus updates, you will crash and burn much sooner than if you did a weekly checkup.

Our whips are nice. They have enough power to "get me into and out of trouble" but I chose to keep it running at 20% capacity for years rather than 100% for months. If I find I EVER need more than 20% of 300hp, I will buy a car with a bigger engine (at that point it will probably be a Peterbilt as I must be out of my mind trying to tow a 40' trailer with my Maxima!)

At 21 your ride should easily get you to your 30th birthday if you keep your foot light and maintenance tight (although I am wondering why the retrofit into a 98? Could it be you aren't as concerned with longevity as power? In which case my advice isn't meant for you! ) Best of luck with your project!

Long story short, the motor that came in the car was an 02 which are notorious oil burners. Furthermore the VQ35 was running on the VQ30 timing equipment and computer. It felt like I was towing another car behind me until I got above 3k RPM. I live in town it was awful to drive not to mention he'd put a cheap eBay racing puck clutch that didn't make sense for street driving and it was glazed causing a squeal at low speed gear shifts. I shaved 50k miles off, the old motor paid for most of the swap bc of all the work done to it to use 3.0 timing equipment, I get a huge increase in driveability, my engine isn't going to burn oil, I was given the chance to replace shot motor mounts and the **** clutch, bragging rights for doing the swap as well as a huge power increase. Im both a function and form person I never max the Rev limiter but I do the occasional hard pull, my step dad always said it's good to clear out the injectors every once in awhile. I'm doing all this work and you don't think I'm gonna keep up on maintenance?
