Is $300 a fair price to have a nissan maxima alternator fixed?

I own 09 nissan maxima with 3.0L engine ,the alternator bought on two years ago and it is not working properly now.
I had local mechanic test it,he said this alternator can be repaired and at cost of $300.
Wow,I think the repairing cost is quite a bit, right?
I see a new alternator replacement online like Hex Auto Parts, DB Electrical or Advanceautoparts only need $70 -$100.
Is $300 a fair price to have an alternator fixed?
Please advice.

I would not choose to pay $300, when you can get a lifetime warranty product for much less.

Please clarify what year Maxima you have. 09 Maximas do not have 3.0L engines...

The $300 price includes removing the alternator to repair it and then re-install it. Unless you intend on removing and re-installing the alternator yourself, you will have to pay more than just the price of the alternator. I think it would still be less than $300, but by how much, I don't know.

The price for parts aND labor seems reasonable to me.

Seems very reasonable to me as well. I think the flat rate time for the alternator on a 4th gen is about 3 hours. 3 hours at $60-$80 an hour puts you in the $210 range just for labor. Then another half hour or so to repair the alternator and cost of repair parts puts you right at $300.

i would call this "money wasted" because of the inevitably poor quality of the alternator that will be supplied at that $300 price point - witness the aforementioned "2 year lifespan"

i'll save the rest in case the OP / First Time Poster comes back and asks more questions re: "As The Alternator Turns" or anything else

That was my first thought as well.

Stores used to have Good Better Best,.

The OP does not realize that labor is quite a bit of that price. So she will get a Good alternator.

She will need to pay for installation a third time.
It would be cheaper in the long run to have a Best alternator and labor paid for on a Visa card.

Why post a thread here that's only for years of 95-99. Not an 09 model... Otherwise, $300 seems fair price for replacing it. I'd recommend getting the best alternator if u can and avoid refurbished

Probably meant 99, not 09, but I asked for clarification just in case. We'll see if the OP even bothers to come back and post again.
