2009 Maxima with brake, abs and tcl on after front wheel bearings replaced

I have a 2009 maxima and I had my front wheel bearings replaced. Immediately, the brake, abs and tc lights came on and stayed on. After reading several threads, I decided to replaced both sensors. I removed the sensor on the right side and immediately noticed it had broken in half, roughly. I figured no big deal since I had new ones. When I tried to insert the new sensor, it wouldn’t go in all the way. The original sensor wasn’t jammed in! Both sensors were the same size. What could have caused this? Wheel bearing not installed correctly? Please help. I ended up keeping the broken sensor installed. Is the car safe to drive?

I can only assume the wrong bearings were installed. Or perhaps defective. The sensors just "drop in" with no effort required.

If the wheel bearings were not installed correctly, the shearing off of the ABS sensor is, or could be, the result. The Maxima has a bearing hub style that has 3 cut outs in back plate at 120 degrees separation that are used to index the bearing hub and ABS sensor for prevention of damage to the sensor...so if the person doing the work ignored this detail...you get a bad result.

Not as safe without ABS as with ABS. But many of us old folk drove for many a year without ABS. If you are experienced driving vehicles without the creature comforts and driving aids of today, sure you can be safe. But if you learned to drive with driver's aids, no it is not safe. You won't know what to expect and that can be very dangerous.

I see you know my brother inlaw! It is just like him to use a 10mm instead of 5/16 to adjust the venturis!

Please ask him to return my wrench!

I thought about that, but we matched up the new ones with the old. Plus, the issue the car was having with the old went away when the new ones were installed. This morning, I made the dreaded call to local Nissan shop for them to diagnose.

This sounds interesting. You put into words nicely what I was trying to say.
