drivers side rear, i heard a distinct whining noise coming from what appeared to be the wheel area, i could hear it from passenger side rear as well but not as loud. any ideas? i have a new charcoal cannister but think it might be that valve leading up to it that's clogged or stuck shut? thanks

Anything to do with speed or change in speed?

Does cornering or braking affect anything?

Does it persist even after the car is shut down or does it have to be running?

If your simply let the car sit and idle it to operating temp, does it show up?

after the car was off, could'nt hear it while it was running and it stopped after a few minutes. just a distinctive whine for awhile after a few miles of driving. no on the braking or cornering or speed.

If it's when the car is running and rolling isn't why, it's not bearings or brakes or tires. Can we assume this?

Then think fuel pump - EVAP.

This could be either related to the work you just did, or maybe a wheel bearing.

I would find a quiet level area without much traffic.
I'd accelerate to 40 mph, put the car in neutral then shut the engine off. Just coast to an eventual stop.

A wheel bearing would whine most of that distsnce. A vacuum related issue from the vapor canister should go away while the car is still rolling.

I assume that you do not have the cel on.

Touch each rear wheel at the hub after the car has been driven for a while. One might be kinda hot, the other not so much. The heat might be from the brake, or a bearing.
