Clanking in rear...

Everytime I go over a speedbump I hear this clanking towards the rear of the car when the back tires go over the bump. It sounds like some type of metal clanking against metal. I think something is loose back there but I have no idea what to look for. Anyone have any ideas?

SE01,
i have a similar sound in my car as well. I think it may be my spare not being tightened in the right spot or something but its def comin from the rear of the car. Does yours sound like its comin mainly from the rear passenger side more than the drivers side rear? Let me know what you find out

It could be your tools for the jack clanking.

I don't really know exactly which side it's coming from, just that its coming from the rear.

Could be, but the only reason I posted is because it started doing it today and I had never heard it before.

I had the same problem when I bought my car. Turns out it was the jack handle in the compartment where the actual jack was. I was never so happier than when I found that.

if you have an aftermarket y pipe, it is designed so that it can turn on the flange that the bolts go through, mine was making some wicked racket so i got someone to turn the whole rear section while i was tightening the bolts and to make a long story short it went away.

it could be your muffler has broken apart from your exhaust, right above the wheel, it happened to me, at only 43k miles, rusted right through.

as you can see, it could be any number of things. It would be helpful if you told us about any suspension/exhaust mods you have...If you are stock then that narrows it down a bit. If you're OEM, I'm betting either loose spare tire/jack or bad strut....

maybe the jack is just loose in that holder. tighten it and see if it goes away.
