Regarding strange noise from left side past 5th gear....First the flippant comment...."only if my wife is driving."

So a few questions...Does it only do it in "sport mode" (DS) or even in D?
All the time?
How about when coasting at that speed?
Does Steering input change the noise?
Any wheel vibration?

My first thought is wheel bearing but without hearing, is hard to diagnose. May also be half shaft (CV axle)

A video or sound bite might help

What do you mean "5th gear"? this car does not have gears.
If you mean "virtual 5th gear" or ratio then maybe, still how do you decide it's 5th? past 45mph you mean?

Also car mileage, maintenance history, CVT fluid changes? any CEL?
Could be wheel bearing, tire rods, sway links, engine mounts, rapped rotors, etc...
