Should i get a used tranny, or buy a rebuilt one..
Hi everyone, new to the forum, any ideas on which is the best option, for my 97 5 speed tranny, to get a used one or get one rebuilt,im having a hard time finding a rebuilt one ....bought the car last year ,it has a whiny noise when i shift to 2nd and also 3rd gear is not smooth to engage ,you sought of have to play with it to get it ....any ideas please...
I have not tried that, where can i get that at?also my concern is the whiny noise, my mechanic that works at nissan thinks the synchros are worn for the hard 3rd gear shift, and for the whinny noise he thinks its a coupke of bearings inside the tranny, and the only way to find out is to tear it appart ,but he doesn't do it himself and doesnt know anyone
I would also try a fluid change.
Sta-lube is one of the less costly options.
Only use the GL-4 oils.
Do not use GL-5 oils. They cause issues like you have now.
If say that only a used transmission is cost effective for our cars now.
The only exception would be if your car has low mileage and you intend to drive it for many years.
