So I’m getting the typical nasty vinegar/sock smell coming from my vents whenever I run my AC unit. I’ve done the “Lysol” method of combating the issue by spraying it through the little air intake right below the windshield from the outside, but that only works for a couple of weeks. I’d like to clean the AC unit using Kool-it, or some other type of cleaner. However, I cannot find the evaporator drip hose (I think that’s what it’s called) underneath my 18’ Maxima. I ran the AC for about 20 minutes and didn’t see any drips of water on the ground which would reveal its location. Would any one know where this tube is located?
So I copied your exact phrase and nothing shows up on YouTube. I had searched YouTube prior to posting and couldn’t find it so I came here for help. Could you send me the link where you found the video based off of what you said? I see no videos about a 2018 maxima
I tried you tube again, and a different web site came up this time, I really did find your answer, but can not find ir again,
from what I read the drain hose is probably clogged, should be visible from under the car on passenger side foot well., about a 1/2 inch rubber hose, just hanging loosely down. I will look again for first time I found it. Ken
I used google search this time, "2018 Nissan maxima evaporator drain hose location", found some excellent
information, let me know how you make out. Ken
Sadly I have not. I’ve googled every thing I could think of and searched YouTube and still can’t find it. I tried running my AC for a while to wait for the water to drip out but I didn’t see any thing come out of any where. Not sure if it was bc it was too cold out or something.
Can someone post a photo? I think I have the drain line as it comes out of ac unit behind dash and inside passenger floor panel. When I pull hose, I feel air coming out.
With stay at home orders, my normal 25k around the city is essentially 0. I decided to change the pain in the a$$ we all know as the cabin filter to find source of mildew smell. Well it was pretty dank and actually...damp? Strange. Checked the hose coming off unit and going to floorboard and looks clean.
could water be coming in from heavy rain from up top? Or from underneath running through a large puddle?..I .did last on accident a week ago while on covid trip to store in heavy rain. The misty mildew smell is definitely a new one for me. 102k on my 2016 Max. Thanks.
i don’t want to pull a POTUS and just start spraying Lysol in the tube.

Reason: Add photo.
Hey so the reason I started this thread is to clean out that exact funk you’re speaking of. It’s crazy how nasty it smells after running the AC and what not. I actually was able to find the location of the hose by the floorboard from the inside last weekend exactly as you have shown. I was thinking I could just yank that tube out and spray the foam cleaner into the ac unit that way, but I was too afraid to do so lol. On the plus side, I was able to cause the evap hose to leak out water after running the AC for 30 minutes on a 80 degree day. I still couldn’t find the hose bc the water looked as if it were coming out of some holes in the frame. As in the hose was buried behind it? It’s hard to explain but here are some pics of where it came out of
Thanks. That helps. So here is what I know and don’t:
- musty smell on fresh air setting only, all modes.
- clean crisp smell on recycled setting
- cabin filter changed out.
- drain looks good, not clogged, and dripping from top of line to bottom under car and good volume. Almost a constant trickle with spurts at time
what is different about air draw and where recirculating flap is? I’m trying to find a mildew smell source upstream from or maybe on that flap from testing all of this. I see where intakes are under wipers under hood but no sure where that leads, if there are any right angles, flat spots, etc. I park in driveway with down hill tilt and wondering if some organic material has gotten in there and taken root. Thanks!
