Striking Rod Seal

[SOLVED]

[Problem]
How difficult is it to change the striking rod seal on a 2000 Maxima manual transmission? Mine is leaking.

also, does anyone know what it's called if you get it from O'Reilly's or AutoZone? Do you have a part number? The dealer says they have to special order kit and it takes three days to get here. I need to get an answer pretty quick if possible. Thanks in advance.

[SOLUTION]
Parts stores don't have this part. It's a dealer-only item and it's special order, so it takes a few days to get it. Below is a link to the part on a Nissan parts website where it can be purchased and shipped to you:

No, the striking rod oil seal according to the Nissan Dealer and another thread here I just found:

https://maxima.org/forums/maxima.org...d.php?t=690409

That thread says it's easy to change. But I need to know very quickly if parts stores have this part. If they do, then I've got the right one. If they don't, I'll have to order if from Nissan and wait a few days for it. Transmission is out of the car and I don't have access to it right now so I can't check to see if the seal is the right one. Pretty frustrating when I'm in a time crunch.

Thanks.

I didn't even know the shift linkage was on the bottom. Damn 5 speeds lol.

This was the only thing I can find. Nothing else is in the diagram. I guess you can call and see if it comes with the seal, b/c it sure isn't listed separately. https://parts.nissanusa.com/p/Nissan...859-6J000.html

That link didn't work for me, but that's okay. The link I showed above has the Nissan diagram on it with the part number. It's a pain to figure out the parts store equivalent though, unfortunately. Oh, well. Maybe someone here will have done it before since it's an easy job. Or maybe I'll get lucky and I got the right part from the dealer a few days ago or from the parts store today.

Thanks for checking on this for me. Much appreciated.

Website works fine. Part Number: 32859-6J000

This is a specialty item. No parts store is going to carry it and probably never has. They don't carry a few major things, already from cars being so old.

If you can get a non-POS at a dealer to help, I'm sure they can find it.

Okay, the site's loading now, but that's not the part I'm trying to get. That's the boot. I need the seal that goes into the transmission. It's the seal in the tranny surrounding the shifter rod that the boot you showed me is on. Nissan's part number is 30401G. It's not on the diagram you showed me. It's on the diagram found in the thread I gave a link to in my second post in this thread. I'm crossing my figures that some parts stores carry an OE replacement.

But if it's not on Nissan's FSM, then why would the part be carried anywhere...

Either a dealer supplier can get it (might as well just call the online guys that specialize in it) or you'll have to remove it and find one of the same size locally (highly unlikely) or buy that seal kit linked in the other thread.

Who sad it's not on their FSM? I said it is, but it's not in that FSM picture you used. It's in a different Nissan FSM picture that was in the thread I linked to in my second post.

Here's a link to the part:
https://www.nissanpartsdeal.com/parts/nissan-seal-oil-striking-rod~32858-03e00.html

Takes Nissan 3 or 4 days to get it because they sad there are none in Texas. Costs $17. Hardly anyone had manuals in their 5th gen Maximas so Nissan just doesn't sell hardly any oil seals like this one anymore. No need to keep it in stock.

But maybe it's the same size as another car's oil seal and that's why parts stores may carry it. Not sure really.

Don't blame me for their retarded FSMs. The one I looked at had all of the parts except that seal. This one is missing other parts lol.

The only other cars that I know of that might have the same seal is a subaru, since they used similar Jatcos.

Oh, I wasn't blaming you. lol Just clarifying is all.

I'll know tomorrow if the seal from the parts store was the correct seal.

My second post in this thread has the exact same link you just posted. lol I was just in a hurry and couldn't get one from the dealer in time since it's a special order part. But now that I know they're easy to change, it's not that big a deal, really. Thanks for the post, though. Much appreciated.
