After the snow melts I am going to be buying a new set of 17" wheels. The wheels have to meet the following criteria:

- Either 17" x 7" or 17" x 7.5
- Less than 17 lbs
- Decent styling
- Good quality

I don't want to go with Volk TE-37's (even though I really like them) because they're starting to become the standard light weight wheel. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hey supermachoman, those rims do look good, what are they?

 

The 17 lbs. will be close, but try OZ Superleggra $289 (i think 16 lbs), Kosei Racing K1 - $189 (i think 16.5 lbs), and as mentioned by Stereodude, the SSR Comps $389(my favorite at around 13 lbs). All at Tirerack. Good luck.

get the K1's they are a awsome low tech forge design that is what makes them so cheap and they have a few color choices. best bang for your dollar, HOLLAR!

I love my 16" K1s. The great thing about them is that they look much bigger than they really are. They are also really strong because I've wacked some huge potholes with no problems. Check out my homepage for pics.

The SSR Comps are my #1 choice, but too expensive. I will probably go w/ the 17" K1's. I like the way the OZ Superleggra's look too, but they are still $280 ea., $100 more than the K1's.

 

Thats the same thing I was thinking. I like the SSR comps but at $380 a piece it isnt gonan be cheap. Hmm maybe if my tax return really likes me I could pull somethign off.

I like the Kosei K1 too. The SSR Competition is nice, but too expensive.

 

The thing that keeps me hang'in on for some SSR's is..."13 LBS."..for a 17" wheel!

 

Sure beats the 02 Altima 17" six spoke ... 10.232 kgs for the rim baby!!! That's about 20+ lbs, per rim.

I'll be ordering a set of the 17x8's when the weather improves a little for the 02 6 speed w/ HLSD (that I don't have yet). I should be picking up my car next Thursday and I'm already looking into replacing the rims and some handling mods already.

Thank you all for your suggestions, they are most appreciated. SSR Competitions seem like great wheels but the price it a bit too steep. I really like the K1's, and the price is makes them seem even better (thanks for the pictures Dave). Have any of you heard of Lenso VPD's? They sell for ~$165.00, and weight ~16.XX lbs. I know the guy who owns that company. Lenso basically makes 90% of axis wheels.

The vpd's are basically SSR Integrals, btw. As for the light ones, I think those are the wheels for slick use only? Call axis and find out if youre really interested.. the # & addy on that link you provided is wrong, hes long since moved to Santa Fe springs. (go to the home of that url)

 

IMO, the VPD's are kinda boring, good price though. To me the Comps and Supraleggras are the best looking w/ the K1 following close second. Good luck.

 

The SSR Competition rims are not "track only" rims meant for slicks. They're very strong light rims that are so good they're very common on the autocross circuit. Apparently there are a lot of people who use them on their daily drivers (like I plan to). They will be my "summer rims" with Kumho Ecsta 712s. I'll have 16" steelies w/ winter rubber for the winter and I'll have the stock rims and rubber for something.

I think he meant that the VPD "Tom Slick" is made for slick tire use.
