Hey Jack, what are you doing with the 12 volt power? It sounds like you're looking to add / install something. Maybe we can offer some other suggestions.

That's exactly what I used after my Max was stolen.. they got the fog lights.. So I installed new fogs in the front holes with the switch in 12v since I barely ever used it

If the fuse is good, but the socket isn't working, there is either dirt / corrosion in the base of the socket, or the device you're plugging into it may have a blown fuse.

The socket is attached to the trim panel around the shifter. In my manual transmission Maxima, the trim panel is removed by gently pulling around the edges. If you have an auto, you may need something (like a flat screwdriver wrapped in a cloth rag) to pry up around the edges of the trim panel. There is a shroud around the socket that unscrews from the back. Once that is removed and you unplug the harness, the socket slides out the front of the trim panel.

You should be able to get a generic replacement at an auto parts store that will plug right in to the factory harness. If you're only looking to charge a phone, you may be able to find a USB style replacement socket that you can wire in place of the original cigarette lighter.
