2016 Maxima slowing for no reason
Corrected title - 2016 Maxima not accelerating after stops (slowing for no reason -
Only recently have i started having issues with the forward emergency braking ( at least I believe that's the issue). The car will randomly slow down and/or not accelerate for no reason. Out of the several times this has happened only once was there a car in front of me. First time I brought it to the dealer, they kept it for a day and a half but couldn't get it to repeat. The following week after it did it 2x in one day it was at the dealers for almost a week. Again they say that it didn't have any issues there. They did a "fix" by calibrating the camera. After a couple of days of no problems, the car slowed/didn't accelerate 4x in a mile and a half! Only 1 time out of all of these did the audio and FEB indicator light go off. They are also saying that there are no error codes but should be if this is happening. I think if the radar is bad then the car thinks it is acting correctly so there wouldn't be any error codes. Thoughts??

I don't believe so. I brought in 2018 and only now having issues. The dealer tried to blame me for hitting/scraping the bumper ( like getting too close to curbing) which I haven't done and underneath scrapes were there when I purchased.
Could Be the Stoplight Switch
I think something similar is happening to my 2017 maxima. It has been (seemingly) going into limp mode and I can't accelerate quickly and my cruise control won't work, which as you can imagine can be very dangerous. It's been happening more and more lately and I noticed today that the brake lights were still on when I parked the car. Started thinking about it and googled a bit and I think my stop light (or brake light) switch is faulty. Makes perfect sense, the cruise control won't work when the brakes are applied and the computer likely won't let you accelerate when it thinks the brakes are applied. I had a friend follow me around the block and he said my brake lights were applied the entire time. I'd check this out when it's happening to you, see if you can turn cruise control on (and apply it). I'd also check to see if your brake lights are activated while you're driving.
Hope this helps and I'm hoping I can get .one fixed this weekend. Should be less than $40 for the part or under $100 for an OEM part.
This video shows how to fix it and or replace it (the issue is the opposite, the brake light won't turn on but it's the same part).. I'm not a car guy so I'll probably just take mine in haha.
Let us know if this is the issue!

I took it for a test drive today with the head of the service along with a technician, and nothing happened. They did think that it could be a brake sensor ( so maybe what you mentioned) that was it of position....but it wasn't. After they talked with Nissan ( local tech rep?) and mentioned my wipers also go off for no reason they are now going calibrating the windshield camera and the radar ( learned today the windshield had been replaced before I purchased). We'll see.
Update: my car is still sitting in the shop. Finally got in touch with the dealer today and they are now saying that there isn't a front camera that connects to the radar. And since it didn't slow down while they drove it (1 time in over a week!), there isn't anything else they can do. Grrr After a bit of arguing he said it could be several different issues but since it doesn't have any codes and it hasn't happened to them, they can't do anything. His suggestion was to video it when it happens again! Seriously wth?!? Suddenly the regional tech from Nissan will be there on Monday to look at it...yes that was only mentioned/offered after I stated that the car will never be fixed, that there is no point in bringing it back after i pick it up. I'm beginning to think it doesn't have to do with the radar afterall. After looking through the forum, thinking maybe fuel/transmission related??
Update: still at dealers! I made them replace the brake light switch after they couldn't get a car to slow/not accelerate for them. At that point the radar had been recalibrated twice and the level checked. Took for test drive with service manager and it finally did it for them! Drove back and keeping car running they checked for errors...ready? Brake light switch! They took a week to replace it again, checked the other switch ( having to do with cruise control). Picked up today....did again 12+ times in about 7 miles. Now sitting here while they reset/reprogram the computer. 🤦♀️

They sent me home with it after the reprogramming. Drove ok going home. Did a long test drive on Monday...rev'd engine in park ( power bar still very low), drove around small neighborhoods. After about 30 minutes, started again. Got video of flooring the petal with no response showing with rpms or power bar. On way back to dealer, FEB alert went off again. Since I did not turn the car off when arriving they got error code. Brake light relay... they replaced took for a very long test drive last night....supposed to be ready today.... we'll see.

I agree -- Pam. You are really helping us all by keeping the thread up to date.

So after the FEB alert went off again, error code this time for the brake light relay. It was replaced and taken for a very long test drive and no issues reported. Got it back yesterday, did ok but still didn't seem right ( not as much power as expected for a Maxima). Today drove about 30 miles noticed the rpms start to "hiccup" , then while parked watched the rpms go from 1000 to 2000....something clearly wrong. Noticed hesitation going from 35 to 45mph. Then the predictive collision alert went off for no reason! It's again back at the dealers.... I'm so done with this car. 😭

Only 47k....it bites! At this point I'm ready to put a 2001 Durango back on the road after it has sat for 1 1/2 years... I've got more confidence that it will work better!
Have you considered trying a different Nissan dealership? Sounds like the technicians at this one are a bunch of Keystone Cops!
This is a sad situation and it got me wondering. Is there a chance the car got lightly flooded? I would pull the passenger seat out and raise the carpet to look for any mud or rust in the metal flooring. Also, examine the under-seat electronics for any signs of rust. Now is the time to start ruling things like this out. Yes a long shot.
Good luck.
Good luck.
Update - Resolved!
Sorry for the delay in updated but wanted to make sure it was actually fixed. It was the Brake Light Relay. The rpm issue hasn't occured again so not sure if that had something to do with the software reset or not ( even though that didn't happen right afterwards). I'm glad it's finally fixed...2 months was waaaaay too long for this.
Sadly I no longer enjoy this car at all. I was going to sell it back but hubby wanted to try it out for a while. And since gas prices have gone crazy, I am now driving a RAM 😊. ( I have 1/2 the commute as my husband).
