Weird Problem : Help
Weird Problem : Help
Yesterday morning, on my merry way to work, I stopped at a red light and started creeping up for the light change when all of a sudden, my car starts jerking in 1st, so I shift in 2nd but the jerking's still there. As I turned the corner at the intersection, the car just stalls and dies on me. I had just enough speed to move to the side of the road.
When I tried starting it up again, the engine would turn fine but wouldn't hook. Kind of puzzled as to what it could be since I've never experienced this problem before, I pop the hood to check things out...everything looks good, all sensors hooked up (I thought maybe it was the MAF sensor since I've forgoten to hook it up before and it was kind of the same effect) After 15 mins of cursing and such, the car finally starts up and takes off fine. The first red light I hit, I stop and wish it doesn't happen again, and of course...it does.
Got the car towed and checked by mechanic. Mechanic calls me up saying he can't do anything since he thought it was something with the fuel pump and/or filter. Both are fine. He said something about not having scanners to check sensors in a JAP car.
Seems like whenever you let the car sit for 15 mins, it starts up again only to stall once you stop and try to take off again....Very weird
Sorry about the novel, any help would be greatly appreciated...thanks

You don't need an OBD scanner to pull the codes, look in the how to section of this forum and it will tell you how.

However I already had a CEL from a few other minor issues (don't remember codes). Shouldn't cause a problem though right??

Pull the codes and fix whats wrong and your car will run correctly.

Wrong, the reason your CEL light is on is because something needs to be fixed.

Your symptoms sound something like a bad TPS (throttle position sensor)

Just so you know, not all OBDII codes can be retrieved with the "check CEL" procedure we all know. ODBII will let out more codes with a scanner. Go to Autozone, they will give you a printout of all the codes your OBDII outputs and what they mean for free.

The only place around here with an OBDII scanner is Candian Tire and they charge 40$ to pull them.

Those people usually know what the CEL means, however, and why it's there....
You don't seem to know either of those things.
