Amsoil ATF or Castrol Transmax

Ive been using Castrol Transmax Full synthetic fluid on my Maxima transmission for about 33k miles. Seems to work fine and I only do a drain & fill but i was wondering if I should switch to Amsoil ATF or just stick with the Castrol. My max currently sits at 387k miles. Shes old and I want the best for it.
Thanx.

The Castrol is fine or Valvoline Maxlife ATF. The Maxlife is a better ATF. There is no need for the Nissan Matic D, it is not a special Nissan "brew" by any stretch of the imagination!

‘Need’ is a relative term and, in this situation, is dependent upon your want and your desire.

Matic-D may not be a technical requirement but it is certainly and unquestionably the safest choice … if one cares what the FSM says, that is.

If I do use the Nissan Matic D trans fluid I’ll probably do a few drain and fill’s to get all as much of the Castrol ATF I have in it now so it can be brand new Nissan Matic D fluid. Thanx for the advice!

Yes, BUT...

Although You Circled The Part Establishing That YOU Are "RIGHT" About Using The OEM TRANS FLUID...
I, For ONE, Could At Least STILL CLEARLY SEE The Little Tiny ² Footnote Reference Indicating The Usual "OR EQUIVALENT" Fact That, UNFORTUNATELY, Big Corporate HOGS Such As NISSAN Are "Subtly" Trying To Obscure!
This Tactic Boils Down To A FEW THINGS:
¹ Their HOPES Of Brainwashing US & Leaving US All TRICKED Into MISTAKENLY Believing That We MUST Be BUYING OEM Products (THEIRS, Of Course)... OR ELSE... &
² REVERSING YOUR ROLE AS "MR. RIGHT"! Well... At Least On Here With Regards To YOUR Answer!
But, HEY... Who Knows?!?
SORRY 😞

^^^ When questions or inquiries come up, I (personally) will typically recommend what I’ve found works.

In having owned my 1999 since MAR of that year and in having personally completed the vast majority of services and repairs since the expiration of the manufacturer’s warranty, I feel comfortable in letting those interested know what I’ve found works.

Nonetheless, if others hold differing perspectives, based on their notable experience and long-term trials and errors, with regard to a specific topic (this case being the 4th generation Nissan Maxima) those individuals should feel free to espouse those perspectives in an effort to contribute to assisting those who’ve asked for assistance.

Please feel free to go on with your bad-self and rest assured the there is one long-term Org member who will most assuredly ignore everything you may have to say in the future.

Welcome to the Org BTW. Your very first post has laid some very productive ground-work.
