CVT noise or what?

Been doing a lot of travel and I have been getting a noise from the cvt on highway passing maneuvers. Whine or a Rrrrr sound. Now I have it all the time, even in park revving I get that sound. I think my VVT solenoids are done as well.
!@#$.

Gggrrrrr. I am so trying hard to remember the part. Stealership don’t sell it.
had same problem, bought the part on Amazon for About $35.
dropped the Tran pan, plus filter and that part sits behind it.
it did correct the whine, but too late for keeping Tran at 250k miles.

in my post about Dec 21… searching

Change out your CVT fluid and replace the CVT filter. There is probably a restriction in the filter.

heeyyyyy. I agree.

I removed the filter and it was soooooooo clogged. So I sprayed it down with brake cleaner - the filter after dropping the Tran pan

scratch the stepper motor, clean the filter. 🤛🏿🤛🏿

I hear ya, Les. I had to argue with the parts manager at the Dealership about ordering the external CVT filter. They said they have never replaced one, and that makes sense; they do not typically deal with 10+ year old cars.

I had that metal on metal whine, but only in manual mode, and above 4500 RPM, so I figured there was a slight restriction in the lubricating system of the CVT. Easiest and cheapest action was to replace fluid and external filter, which I did; no more CVT whine.

I do the filter and fluid every 30k. My car now has 180,000 miles on it and the CVT is fine.

and since our Max is temperamental, the external and internal filter could be the cause. I flushed the external several years
and correct, stealership don’t recommend new filter… $5 brake cleaner works…

Ah, I imagine that is a database issue at RockAuto, not the actual cost, though since the database is messed up, that is what you would have paid if you had placed an order.

I used to get my engine-air-filter from them. I went on last month and it says I had to order a package of 16 filters with each filter costing $32 each...wtf; and it is still like that. Like I am going to order $500 worth of air filters for my car. I called customer support but there was nothing they could do, so I just ordered it from the dealership.

I guess ya just gotta keep you eyes open...

They do stuff as cheaply as possible, so they probably did some crossover of parts. I would check the external filter. Look at the earlier post to see what it look like. If it looks like it has 120k on it, then it does. if it is old, then change it out.

beleive this one

brake cleaner ( as I said before). And spay them down.

that internal gasket most likely look like your house air filter and more. Imaghine the fluid trying to shift through that mesh.

try that first before you waste $325!!!!

TD. I pulled the external and used brake cleaner and that took care of cleaning.

Just to be clear Rock auto shipping is the issue, The parts were reasonably priced, $8 for the internal filter $35 for the gasket and $35 for the external filter. $325 for shipping. Then they said they were out of stock on the gasket after all that. Not happy with my last couple of transactions with RA.

I will never do business with them (again)!!!!

Every 30k miles, I drain the Tran fluid.

original tran lasted 256k miles until the tran started to slip. Limped car 145 miles to uncle shop and transplanted a 89k miles Tran

uncle said his shop sees our Gen Nissans coming to his shop almost daily with Tran problems/replacing and under 110k miles…

Ok dropped pan, good amount of sludge in and around the magnets mostly and light layer of sludge on the pan. Removed filter and flushed half a can of brake cleaner in it til it came out clear.. It was pretty grey and there were 5 tiny strands of metal on that fine screen. I did the same on the external til the brake cleaner was almost clear. Fluid was pretty beat. CVT appears fine but will know more when I drive it a bit more. Surprised Nissan does not do this or the external filter as maintenance. The #$%^ they told me at the dealer is so wrong. I was trying to educate the service adviser but they are following a script. I gave up.

BTW do not buy the raybestos filter on Rock Auto its not OEM spec, It looks like a window screen, the OEM one looks like a screen printing screen with a fine mesh..

just keep your 30k miles drain and fill and read out 1/4mil miles….unless you go beat up every red light drag….

Ok noise is 90% gone and you have to tilt your head to hear it. Drives real smooth. I'll take it.

Yes I hosed both internal and external with a full can of brake kleen and filled it back up with NS2. Noise is faint.

Glad you got it fixed cheaply. I replaced my CVT filter at 150k miles, in Apr of 2019. I bought the filter from Fenton Nissan and I only paid $17 for it but that was in 2019. I did a quick search online and now they cost $50 or more. I'm due for my next CVT fluid change in 20k miles, (I change it every 50K).

When you pull that sucker off and replace it, you'll need some CVT fluid to top it back up. Good luck.
