Whining noise when accelerating?

Hi guys im noticing a whining noise similiar to a low power steering noise when i accelerate. Its a faint whining noise not too loud. Im concerned that its the tranny. I have 96k miles. No engine lights come on. Can anybody tell me what should i check first with a mechanic? Is it even a serious problem to worry about or is it a common noise with these cars.

I have noticed at times when I get on it, it sounds like a supercharger. I know I don't have an SC, but it sure sounds close. The other night some guys in a scion were weaving in and out of traffic and I got on it to catch up to them and then blow there doors off getting on the highway, it sure sounds like an sc.

My cvt made this sound right before it failed. You have a 2009 so it's covered under the 10yr/120k mile warranty. Just take your car to the dealership and if it is the cvt you will get a new one for free! Good luck!

PS the extended cvt warranty is for the 2009 and 2010 models only.

Warranty

According to page six, the power train is covered 60 months or 60k miles, which ever comes first. I'm only at 45k with a 2012, so it looks like I'm still covered.

I would get that checked out long before the warranty expiration so it can get documented the noise is there.

Yes that is what we are saying. If it is the transmission making the whining sound, well that is not good. If you have a 2009/10 then the CVT has an extended warranty to 10yr/120,000 miles.

The guys are correct. 2009 & 2010 have a 10 year 120k mile CVT warranty. Get it looked at.
