80k miles 5th Alternator - IPDM issue?

Help! Getting ready to have 5th alternator installed in my wife's ~80k, 17 maxima (Starting about 40k). Accordingly, my wife is about to see heads roll! Typically we're getting under a year per alternator. The last one was replaced with a new battery at the same time in January. We started smelling smoke 7 months in and after 10 months we are back to losing power (non-responsive throttle and cruising 1-2mph from idle RPMs). This time the pigtail looked melted and the alternator is putting out about 11.8v at idle supposedly. The shop claims to have checked the wiring, codes, etc. I have asked them to go back and recheck for grounding issues. The brand new alternator that just went on is supposedly not charging or reaching full voltage and curious what ways I can tell the shop to test or confirm grounding, IPDM, ECM, and other related issues.

I'd like to know if I can clip the voltage signal wire from the IPDM like on the earlier Nissan units. This should allow the voltage regulator to put out its standard 14-ish volts while driving. Seeing there have been a couple other, mostly unresolved threads around this issue, any additional help or advice would be much appreciated!
