Hello dudes - 2005 A34 with 180K auto. So I have fixed a good number of problems that were mostly cosmetic and faulty sensors(crank and cam were all bench tested faulty). All replacement crank and cams sensors are nissan/hitachi genuine with the metal barrel.
What I dont get is, using nisscan 2.56, my readings on the timing and bank 1 cam sensor are within parameters but for bank 2, its pegging at 40 degrees advanced and it does not matter if the sensor pigtail is connected or not The return value is consistently 40 degrees + advanced. Could this be an ECU/ECM problem? I traced the signal wire to pin 14 and there is continuity.... See image below:
Over the last 3 months, ive read approximately 20 or so threads about the grief gen6 maxima gives everyone regarding bank2 cam sensors.
For my 05 MAX, I narrowed down the limp mode to either the current hitachi cam sensor bank 2 being faulty(im not worthy!), the ecm/pcm being faulty or wiring loom shorting issues. I studied the field service documentation (NICOclub rocks!) for this generation and continued further...
So after contemplating the swap of the ECM BCM pair, reprogramming new keys and another "genuine" Nissan bank2 cam sensor
OR
slap in another "genuine" Nissan cam sensor in bank 2 and reconnect the current PCM/ECM (being that I already removed it for inspection...nothing fried/burnt during the circuit board review), I decided to go with the later of the two options (technically a re-seat)..
It would seem that either ECM/PCM for this generation is VERY VERY specific about what voltage frequency range it is expecting for cam sensor bank 2 (hence a new "genuine" Nissan cam sensor for bank 2) or the re-seating of the ECM/PCM plus the new bank2 cam sensor did the trick.
For now, no further codes and the maxima fires up immediately(no 3 second delay).... Awesome Possum.
I will upload an update nisscan pic as time permits. Hope this helps someone whos fed up with a similar scenario.
