2016 Maxima SL - Strong Engine Braking When Releasing Gas Pedal

Hi Everyone,

I recently purchased a used 2016 Nissan Maxima SL, and I've noticed an issue with the car's behavior when I release the accelerator pedal. The car seems to pull back or decelerate more strongly than expected, almost as if there's an aggressive engine braking system in place.

Some questions:

1. Is this normal behavior for a 2016 Maxima, or could it indicate a problem?
2. Could this be related to the transmission fluid? I'm unsure when it was last changed.
3. Are there any known issues with the CVT transmission in this model year that could cause this?
4. If this isn't normal, what should I look into or have checked by a mechanic?

Any insights or experiences from other Maxima owners would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!

I'm not up on the 2016 although I would think that it is the same as the 2017. I own an SL and I find that the engine braking is moderate to low. My transmission is working just fine after 70,000 miles. Matter of fact when I let off the gas at 70 mph it seems like it coasts much faster than other cars I've owned when letting my foot off the accelerator pedal from the same speed. After a short drive around town touch your wheels to see if maybe your brakes are dragging. If one or more is super hot then that might be your problem.

Have the CVT read for trouble codes. It is possible to have a code without seeing a dash light warning. Make sure the "Sport" button is not on
