2003 Maxima Gle No Audio
2003 Maxima Gle No Audio
Hi there, I've recently bought a 2003 Maxima Gle and having troubles with the audio. It's the factory default radio system. I have checked all the fuses as well as checked the wires and they look good, I am puzzled to what wrong.
Here's some symptoms
The radio is powered but gets no reception (scans endlessly for a signal)
No audio what so ever...except
When driving it home I at first had no audio and then it turned on by itself ( heard white noise come on) which then I was able to connect my Bluetooth device and play music with no issues. Also the radio started working regularly( could scan in stations)
Again I'm stumped. Please share some insight

I did take it out yesterday and air hosed it and reinstalled it and it came on for a little bit but died again.
Don't think it's a power issue.tedted current and amps are getting powered. Beginning to think it's a module, the attenae itself or the radios module input

may be using one of those terrible BT FM modulators. in other words the radio started working normally and was able to pick up the FM signal the bluetooth device was putting out.
you may have the same issue I had for years and figured out later on. if you are using an aftermarket radio the antenna only works if power goes to the power window wire on the stereo adapter harness.

Im Having Issues Uploading pics from this site so I hope this helps. Il be uploading another one like this after work to show how the radio scans. but this video is showing how the volume came out last time I worked on it. the wind noise is in fact is the radio and not a natural source. Again I don't think its the speakers cuz when the sound does come out clear its flawless in all the speakers.
That sounds like a blown speaker to me. And that is a stock Bose head unit which natively doesn't have bluetooth.
As for station issues, do you have rear window tint? I think the metallic tint ones can cause issues with reception.
All in all, it sounds like a bad headunit if it sometimes plays normally. Many years ago, my same headunit stopped playing sound until I would hit the center console from the passenger side. After a couple of whacks, it would play sound.

right that's what I thought at first too with the speakers.YOu may be right but I'm feeling like it isn't with how clear it came out.also had no loose wire sounds or anything.
No tint whatsoever, ok I have a friend whose gonna loan me a head unit to attach and test that theory so hopefully that fixes the issue
you should pull the head unit out and see how the wiring looks. also get a good working speaker to test the door speakers.
have you tried playing a CD or cassette tape or even cassette tape adapter?

Ya I have a few times. Wires look good and ya I did but ****en cd got jammed in it after testing it in that first video. The cassette adapter kept getting spit out with an error code
For what it's worth, in the early 2010's that there were modified 5th gen stereos being sold on eBay that had custom modifications done, such as adding Bluetooth compatibility. You might have one of those modified stereos. Unfortunately, there is no telling if those modifications were done properly. IMO stuff like that is prone to prematurely fail, assuming it even works in the first place. But this is just my speculation. You might want to consider getting a replacement OEM stereo or an aftermarket head unit.
