Cool 2017 Maxima w/42,000 Evaporator Core Out

Hi all,

first time poster. Reading through the forums I have come to realize this is an issue. I really love this car. I bought it used with 900 miles on it in 2019. Only problem I’ve had with it is a sensor went out with the lane passing warning- it cost $1600 in 2020 to fix that. Now. I woke up last week in my air was blowing warm. Same story like everyone else it was low on Freon. They put dyein it and it was leaking at the evaporator core. When my first warranty ran out, I refinance the car and got another extended warranty through the so I’m waiting to find out if they cover it they should but I’m hoping it’s not gonna be a fight. But long story short. I don’t know if I should keep it or trade it in. If the warranty doesn’t cover it I’m definitely gonna have to trade it in because I can’t come out of pocket that much money. I still owe 9000 on it. I’m looking on opinions. What would you do?

How much to fix the car? Might still be the best option for what you owe

Well, I’m bringing it in Monday- my original mechanic said about $3,000ish and he didn’t want to touch it. That it was a job for the dealer. Then I literally just put a $4500 transmission in my son’s 2001 GMC Sierra. Had a hard time deciding to do that, but it still looks great-and for the money he wouldn’t get a truck that looked any better.

so funds are low, trying to recoup a little. It really depends on if the extended warranty comes through or not.

I am in the same boat, coil failed, leaking all over the filter. Found this guy's video who replaces it without tearing up the dash. I'm going to do it in few days - Evaporator
