Ok now. I need all of your opinions!! Which do you think would handle high horse power better (400-600 hp) VG30E SOHC 89-94 Maxima engine or the VQ30DE 95-99 Mazima engine??? With all internal engine mods.

Yup. I was reading on the Gen. 3 forum that someone has pulled 500-600 hp out of the SOHC with a custom Whipple s/c so i know it can be done. I am just still trying to decide which would be better VG30E or VQ30DE. I think i will go with the VG30E since it has an iron block and also it is cleaner. It would be extremely easy to turbo it and run all of the piping.

You're definitely going to need an LSD. Even then, you'll have gobs of torque steer. The Saab 9-3 Viggen is notorious for its torque steer, and it only has a turbo 4-banger with 258lb-ft of torque. You'd be making a lot more, if you pull this off.

 

i dont recommend the SOHC.....but among the other two i dont really know

We all have maximas here and I dont think its worth spending all your money trying to make a 400-600hp family sedan. Dont get me wrong, I love my maxima, but... If you have all this cash burning a hole in your pocket, why would you choose a maxima to build a 600hp monster? For less than 12k you could buy an 83-88 Monte Carlo and swap the motor out for a GM 502 crate motor. Yeah its a domestic, but it will spank a HEAVILY modified max.

 

if he is trying to do this let him do it! i don't see what's wrong with a 600+ maxima. i am pretty much done except for the engine...and as we know....4th gen engine are pretty much the way it is..no one makes anything for it...if he can do it with in a reasonable price.... i am sure someone will do it! as far as in my opinion.... as long as you still a stock engine..... you have a stock car.... give him credit for trying.

 

The day your Maxima achieves 400-600 HP is the day your girlfriend stops taking it anally from me, and quite frankly, I don't see that happening in the near future.

I just got my 90 5-speed se so i'm going to attemp a VE30DE engine swap and hopefully get that 500-600 horse out of it. See ya.

I think your best bet is to get a Geo Metro engine, those things have some serious power. Like 800hp Stock.

 

So the 3rd gen people are nicer to you when you bring up your 600 hp talk? We're not trying to be mean to you, but you talk so much BS that it's hard not to be. You're 17, have no job, yet you're talking about stuff that's going to cost $30K to pull off (and that's a low estimate). You have to concrete plans or technical info, you just say you're going to do it. Of course we're going to talk smack about it. Notice a lot of the other guys with big plans don't get flamed, do you know why? Because they don't post stuff that just isn't going to ever happen.

So when are you going to swap that engine out? If it's not already in the works, then that is the exact reason we talk trash to you. If you haven't taken a first step, then don't talk about step 100000009. You were talking about making 600hp with a VQ without even having the car... Don will probably have close to 600 hp from his car, but nobody is mean to him. And why is that? Because he is actually doing the work now, and has pictures to prove it, it's not all in some crackhead fantasy world.
