How much to do a clutch job ?

I'm replacing my clutch today at the dealer and I am looking for an idea on what is a reasonable price.
I am supplying the clutch kit, are there any parts that I should have replaced at the same time? rear main seal ? resurfaced flywheel ?anything ?
I'd appreciate any input.

Thanks

$345

$ 300 to do the clutch
$ 45 to machine/resurface the flywheel

Make sure your kit has a throw out bearing in it too! If not you should get one. Some kits have it, come don't. Does your clutch kit include pressure plate and alignment tool? (Just curious)

As for resurfacing, you shouldn't need to unless you're past the nubs on the clutch plate

I got my clutch replaced for $280 including resurfacing the flywheel which was $30. All the dealers in my area wanted $650+ just for labor including Courtesy. Throwout bearing, transmission fluid, clutch, pressure plate should do it. If the installer asks if you have an alignment tool I would go somewhere else

Did you get it done at a small shop or something? Just curious since everyone else said 660+

If you have a college that has a toyota T-TEN program or similar automotive programs then you can get any transmission job done for free if you provide parts.

Is the clutch replacement a 8 hour day thing if doing it in the driveway with jackstands and fairly straightfroward? I have done rear wheel clutches before but never front. Also, what aftermarket clutch is best/price and appro. how many normal driven miles before replacement on average? Thanks: e3 - spamman

Maybe get a chiltons or full on service manual and see what it entails and then make a decision. I would love to do it myself, for the following reasons:

1) save mad cash!
2) pride you did it yourself.
3) you know yourself and be meticulous - basically know it all went back together nicely - no shop surprises down the road.

Peace: e3 - spamman

I've read the clutch replacement sections in both the Haynes manual and FSM and it really doesn't sound that difficult.

I plan on doing it this summer and taking two days. 1 to disassemble everything (exhaust, axels, etc) and replacing the clutch. Then the next day to replace everything. It sounds like a job that can be easily done, especially with two people and the right tools.

Check this site out: http://www.stormpages.com/autoto5spd/. One of the forum members outlined the steps to convert an auto to a 5 spd. This can be used for changing a clutch too since it involves similiar procedure.

I would have done my clutch myself but I live in a dorm and now was a bad time for me to learn with no garage. If this had been summer I would have gladly done the job myself, but sometimes things don't always work out in your favor. I trust my mechanic and for $250 it was well worth it.
