Hi! i'm new to the forum. I have a 97 240SX SE. My brother just purchased a '98 Maxima GXE. I searched the forums but could not find the exact procedure. Can anyone offer up some info?

TIA

Remove old fuel filter, install new filter.

It's located on the drivers side of the firewall in the engine compartment. Once you see it, you should be able to figure out how to get it out.

i replaced mine working over the engine, but i've heard some people find it easier to get under the car to remove the bottom hose with the filter. good luck!

I went topside for the upper clamp and underneath for the bottom. It was not fun but I think the ABS made it hard to get to both connections from topside. e3 - spamman

This job is much, much easier if you take out the intake (either the stock box or an aftermarket one). This will give you much more room to get your hands on the fuel filter.

If you have a stock intake this is a pain, and with some aftermarket ones its really easy (I know popchargers are, CAI's will be tougher to get off).

After that there is a small phillips screw (clamp) on the top and bottom of the filter. Loosen these screws and pull (hard!) the hoses off the filter. Put a new on in its position and slide the hoses onto it. Some kind of grease of Vaseline will make this easier. Clamp on the new hoses. Make sure the leave the head of the screw facing in a direction where it will be easy to access next time.

this is what i did ... except for the vaseline part and the "pull hard" bit. instead i used more of a twisting and pulling motion.

Makw sure before removing the filter/hoses you remove the fust labeled "Fule Filter" under the steering wheel near the drivers door. When you remove it run the car until it dies. Then the fuel and pressue will be out of the hoses and make it easier/cleaner for you to remove.

Remove your gas cap!

What ever you do remove your gas cap before you do this I removed mine and like an idiot tightened it back and when the pressure built back up I got a face full of premium. LOL

A better way to do this would be to depressurize the fuel system before removing any fuel line connections by pulling out the fuse for the fuel pump to the left of the steering column in the fuse panel & running the engine until it dies from lack of fuel pressure.

Result: no gasoline in the face.

Re: Re: Remove your gas cap!

I did exactly that, it is possible for pressure to build back up. I started my car removed the fuses till the car died and tried over and over to start it again. Then I relieved the pressure from my gas cap and for some strange reason I tightened it back down. And minutes later into this procedure I had one of the hoses off the top I think and swoosh! Here comes a stream of premium out of the filter.

The two clamps with those small screws sucks!!
i tried to do it twice without success....
I recommend taking it to a mechanic and getting it replaced for $15+filter+tax.
u can do it but the pressure may not allow you to pull off the hoses easily.

Take care of your hoses and don't twist and pull them very hard.

Has anyone replaced the stock fuel filter for a K&N Fuel filter? Any improvement in performance?

It took me like 3 tries, spaced over the span of a few months, to finally change the filter.. The longer you have to wait, the madder you get, and the harder you'll be able to pull at those damn hoses..
