Tokico or Kyb with Eibach?

Okay before anyone starts telling me about the famous search function, I searched. Not one post really answered my question completely. I'm about to chuck my original stock suspension out the door and get performance ones. I'm planning to go with Eibach Pro Kit springs. I've heard a few dudes here had problems with Tokico shocks after a few months. I also saw a few members with the Eibach/Kyb gr2 set up. Isn't the kyb gr2 a stock replacement? And it's not a performance shocks so how well do they hold up with lowering springs? I want to know which shocks is more durable with Eibach springs and how much better is the Tokico over Kyb since Tokico is for performance use and is more expensive. Is it true that Tokico shocks will start going after 10k miles?

I've got Eibach/tokico combo and I love it, there's no fender gap. If you were to insert your finger above the tire it would have to go up alot before getting to the top of the tire. The Tokico come with lifetime warranties, I had no problems with mine and they've been in for a year now (self installed, it was a b!tch doing it the first time). Just make sure you use BRAND NEW strut boots (some org members have cheesed out and duct taped the old ones ). Some factors that can contribute the life of the struts is 1)When installing them you cannot scratch the surface of the piston on the strut. 2)When installing the rear, it is important not to add too much oil to the strut cartridge (the oil is used to cool the strut), if you put too much the oil can get on the piston and this can do possibly a couple things, one being the oil can have some abrasive particles in it and if this gets on the piston surface it can do a number on the strut seal, and the other thing is the oil can attack/soften the strut seal lessening its life. Good luck and Enjoy!!

Hey thanks for replying eric93se. I thought nobody's going to respond. It's nice to know that Tokico will last that long and seems like they served you well. I was thinking of going with Kyb gr2 but you've changed my mind about the Tokicos. Don't the strut boots come with the Tokicos right?

Sorry dont have a digi cam

The struts do not come with the boots, you have to purchase them seperatley. Mine were about $15 a piece, but you can get them for around $10 a piece.

I need to get a good pic of my ride, I go crazy with the wax (cleaner wax, polish wax, final wax = one very shinny max)

I just ordered a set of Eibach Pro Kit springs and Kyb GR2 shocks along with a bumpstop and dustboot kit for all 4 corners from shox.com. It came out to $463 ($199 springs + $186 shocks + $50 kit + $28 shipping). I can't wait until my dad puts them on. I also need an alignment bad.

Wait about a month after installing the suspension, b/c the rear takes a while to settle. I waited two weeks but the rear was not finished settling (not really a big deal). Also make sure you specify that you want ALL FOUR WHEELS ALIGNHED ($60-70), and also mention the service manager that the suspension was changed all around.

Not on 3rd Gens

I think that Tokico softening (after a few months) is on the 4th gens, not on 3rds.

I will need the rear to be aligned also? I thought the alignment is only for the front? How can you align the rear because there're nothing to adjust with in the rear? We can't adjust camber for our cars so what is there to adjust in the back?

gr2s=30% stiffer than stock. made for lowered cars. Eibach springs are ok with the gr2s. If you were to get a more aggressive spring rate I would tell you to go with something else but Eibachs and you're fine. If I were you (or anyone else that wasn't broke, for that matter) I would get Konis....
