This kid has a 1997 Honda Type-R engine swap with Nos. He says he has 275HP with the nos. My aunt has a 2002 Nissan Maxima 6-speed. I was wondering if I borrow her Maxima will I be able to beat this kid.
Im going to bet money that is why I asked instead of trying and finding out. Thanks.

Engine swap into what? If he is really making 275 hp, which may or may not be true, I'm think you are about to get spanked since any honda with that engine will be much ligher than the maxima, and have 20 extra hp to boot.

what swap is it exactly??? I'm helping a friend in the process of planning his swap(b18c into 2002 Civic) and man I never realized how many engines these Honda boys have to work with!!! its sickening

Ok if this guy really has NOS on his Type-R, then personally I wouldn't race him for money. Because you may end up getting raped by this guy. As far as I know the Type-R runs the 1/4 mile around 14.5sec sometimes less and sometimes more depending on who's driving. Now when you add NOS to the equation he could shave 1.5 sec or more off that time if he's done the right hookup and if he doesn't blow his engine. Example, about 2 years ago I saw a guy in a 93 F-150 Lightning at the track. He did 2 passes; one w/nos and one w/o. He pulled a 14.7 w/o nos, but he pulled a 12.3 with it. So I say no because you could end up losing the race and your money. Just my 2 cents though.

 

i have a friend with a 98 civic coupe that has a type-r engine in it and a lot of mods, and even without spraying if its even nearly as fast as my friends, theres a good chance u'll still lose

 

LOL... you didn't even state the body style... if what you meant was something like an older Civic HB with at 97 Type-R motor with NOS.... FORGET IT....

 

Everyone on here has beaten a riced out Honda of some form or another. Be smart and race hime for pride. I would like to see a 50 shot on a new 2K2 Max.

I have a friend with a 98 Civic Hatch w/ 00 Type R swap. It is fast. He wants to run for $50 and I have been backing down. He runs it up to 10k redline then shifts. it has NO torque, but it moves on the top end.

If this guy has a good swap with NOS, you will lose. Let us know how it turns out.

Although..... is this from the line or rolling? Could have a chance rolling.... could.

 

I would think off the line he would have a better chance. They have no low end torque, so the Honda driver has to either clutch dump and risk bogging the engine, or slip the clutch from like 8k and risk bogging the engine. The Max should be easier to launch. This should give the Max the edge. Now if you're going to take 'em from a roll he's already into his powerband and can stay there the whole race.

To the original poster keep this in mind: If he's could be running a 117HP "Type-R" Civic SI motor with a 25 shot of NOS in which case you'd crush him. But he could just as easily be running a 220HP Civic Type-R engine with a 100shot of NOS in which case he will spank you silly.

heh "type-R" Civic SI.... ha ha. That is true. But I am asuming the guy has checked the car. Just look for that B18C stamp on the front of the block.

As far as getting off the line, I have seen some Civics get off the line pretty fast, including mine when I had it. I think the Max will do well, w/ the right driver, this guy is going to take his aunts car, he isn't even used to it. IMO, I don't think he could pull it off.

Maybe I will just take my friend up on his $50 and see what a nice Type R Civic can do.
