Have you ever raced someone and see/hear the other person's car blowing up or breaking? For example, smoke coming out of tail pipe, sudden deceleration due to mechanical failure, or whatever else?

Yep in Novemember I raced a modded 88-93 Mustang 5.0 in my moddded 95 max. He could not catch me from a roll and we were going all out and finaly he got up to my rear door and a huge cloud of smoke came out of the hood and exhaust. Kind of a releif because he was just about to pass me (90+ MPH) . I turned around to see if I could help the guy out or something but he flew down a side street and I could not seem anywhere.

 

What if they just nail the brakes because they're losing? Does that count as a "mechanical failure?" You know... because their mechanicals failed to win?

Raced my friends GTP and he blew his engine, nasty knockong noise after we were done, turned out he had to replace the engine b/c he threw all his rod bearings. Guess the 3.8L cant handle 6200rpms

 

Once I was next to a Eclipse and he reved at me, so I reved back and it was on... I noticed a cop car pull up behind me... The light turned red and the Eclipse and I took off... I cut it off at the speed limit, but the Eclipse kept going... needless to say the cop turned on his lights and pulled the Eclipse over. I felt kinda bad, but Darwin was proud of me

 

I havent had that happen in the maxima, but I've had it happen twice. One in my old 90 camry, once in my mom's 98 camry. The first time I was fooling around with my 18.3 second Toyota camry, my friend with his 69 chevelle tries to race me from a stop light. Well well well, I actually wind up winning because he nailed the gas, and then we all hear a loud BOOM. IIRC, he blew his camshaft! (the only one he has, that is.. hehe). That was probably 2 years ago.

Second time, which happened probably about a month ago, when my maxima was out of commission i was in my mom's camry v6. I was fully loaded with 4 people in my car, then this butt plug in a geo storm that had Edelbrock and Holley stickers and ricey exhaust starts revvin at me, and then he cuts me off hard core. I chase him down and we're now at these back streets now. Now we're lined up side by side, I'm talkin all this smack out the window, yadaya. We raced a few times and I kicked his butt in my mom's 4 door family sedan, hahahah. After the last run, I see him pull over and he quickly runs around pops the hood and all this smoke pours out. I pull up beside him and start talking smack again, I say "Did you break somethin? It sure smells like it!" We all busted out laughing as I proceeded to do a 2 wheeled automatic burnout. Hahaha, it makes me laugh everytime I think about that night.

 

How did you manage to do a burnout in a V6 Camry, stock FWD auto with four people in the car?

Raced a riced out eclipse on the highway and he ended up blowing fire out of his exhaust! He had to pull over at the rest area because his car started choking....mitsubishis! hehehe

I just remembered this:
Two guys I know (not really), raced behind a local Kroger. One was in a new Civic Si and the other was in... I can't remember. Make a long story short, they were doing a "Grease;" take off, pull an e-brake turn and haul a** back to the finish. Well, the guy in the Civic lost it in the turn and slid into a curb/lamp post at about 50. Destroyed the front passenger-side suspension and ruined a wheel/tire. They weren't even racing for money.

 

last summer I raced an 80'S early 90's Supra...not sure if it was turbo or not, but I pulled up next to him, and his car was making all types of noises and what not(desperate need of tune-up type of noises )but he still revved on me....I laughed to myslef, but when the light turned green we stomped the gas........so I'm about 3-5 lengths out in front and I hear a loud "pop"/backfire and see smoke coming from his engine....MUHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA!!!!!! I guess the VG power was just too much for him!

 

The same way you'd do one in a maxima. Jack the ebrake, brake torque it up and then mash the gas. The 4 gen camrys v6 are very comparable to the 4 gen maxima's. I ran a 15.3 at the drags bone bone stock 2 years ago with that car.

 

I know how the Mustang felt. Back in my younger non-Nissan days I raced my friends 88 Turbo Z and blew the engine on my 88 Stang. And to add insult to injury we were an hour away from home so I had to listen to him explain Nissan superiority the whole way home. For some reason I still own that Stang

 

last summer, i was in my 98 saab 93 5 spd on hempstead tpk, coming home from some club, zacharys or chelsea st. earlier in the night, this busted jetta with 20" chrome wheels was playing with me, and i had him every time. coming home from the club, heading to the meadowbrook, i see the same jetta coming up behind me again. this is like 5 hours later, so he mustve been out running all night. well hes got the jump on me cuz i was just cruising along, so i floor it, and he ends up being right next to me. im making the right turn onto the meadowbrook, which is actually a 2 lane entrance, which merges to one. so hes right next to me the entire time, and i see that the lanes merge, so i just take my foot off the gas to slow down a bit, and he flies by me on the left, hits the curb with his front wheel, shoots in front of me to the right, hits the grass, does a sick 360, flies in front of me again to the left, hits the curb head on which is quite large for some reason, destroys his rims, and is now coming back in front of me backwards. i had to go up on the grass on the left to avoid him. i wanted to stop to see if he was alright, but my friend said he was big and black (no offense to anyone here, but im a little white boy from queens). but the best part was it was so surreal, that it was all slow motion and i can remember every second of it

 

Another favorite that some people on here had were couch cushions too.

for those who dont know.... bear in mind this happened well over a year ago...

 

I was coming back with my GF from a local hangout in her 240SX. There were like 4-5 cars racing. Two RX7 (fast as hell) a slow a$$ civic and this Toyota Paseo. Well the Paseo was pretty damn fast too and at the next light, it backfired loudly and just stalled. The two guys inside had to get out and push the car to the side.

 

I raced this guy with a turbo eclipse because he made the statement that he could beat me so badly that he could make the wind tear the STILLEN sticker off of my front windshield. So I raced him and he ended up selling his car the next day because everyone was laughing at him. Now he has an all wheel drive twin turbo Stealth, and he kills me, but is scared to race MardiGrasMax! Muahahahah!

 

 

Once when I had a 94 firebird formula with the t-tops off there was this redneck and his buddy in this old dodge ram revving the **** out of his engine just trying to get me to race. I just kept on going not even thinking about racing and then about 10 seconds later oil started shooting out from underneath his truck and he pulled over onto a side road. I turned around and went back and they were looking under the hood. I revved my engine, they looked up and I took off. Me and my friend were lauging our asses off. I think his oil filter exploded. Whatever, it was funny (not for him though).
