I definetly got my pretty much STOCK a$$ kicked, but what fun.

So, I go out of town and the car is loaded down with luggage. BTW, the A/C was on and I only have a STS, my intake isn't installed, not like it would have made a difference. Anyways, I'm hauling along and run into a hwy patrol who's doing less than the speed limit, so I slow it down to the posted 75mph, pass him and the other dumb traffic following him, and he jumps in behind me and trails me for awhile. What a d!ck on a power trip, but he can't mess with cruise control. Finally he disappears for awhile, so I pick it back up to ~85mph. Then I see a white car coming up, far back, so I think it might be the cop, but it had amber running lamps. I think it's probably a Chevy or Pontiac and I just cruise, since my radar wasn't doing anything. Then it approaches. One of my favorite cars, a beautiful white 2001 Chevy Camaro SS(320-335hp?) with some late 50's early 60's guy driving with his wife on the passenger side. So, I pick it up and shadow him, so I can use him as a sheild for cops. I shadow him for awhile and he keeps speeding up clearly trying to stay ahead of me and then getting slowed down every now and then by a semi passing a motorhome. Anyways, I finally end up passing him, because he slowed down below 85mph and I just keep going. He catches up and we trade positions a few times. Finally, I pass him and MAX out my cruise control ~93mph. He falls back, way back, but I can still see him in my rearview. Then I glance up and this white streak about 4-5 car lengths behind me is blowing by me FAST, so I say HELL yea! Drop it into 4th and FLOOR it, I know should have hit 3rd, but I was also changing lanes and using my blinker(like anyone would care!), so my brain wasn't fast enough to look down at my speed. I slowly(compared to how fast he was moving) start to decrease the amount by which he is pulling away. I hit around 125+ and he was still pulling away at I'd guess he was ahead by 20-30 car lengths, then he hits the brakes and slows down. He was just toying with me, but man it was a sight to see. So, I hit the brakes and slow down to his bumper at about 110mph and he floors it and so do I. Man his ehaust shoots out a puff of smoke and he is GONE! I think it was an auto, since the car didn't buck like a manual downshift, but he may have double clutched, I don't know. I get up to about 135+ and he is still pulling. He brakes and I let off. Then we do pretty much the same once more. Then he slowed down to about 80 and I pull up next to him to see this ear-to-ear GRIN giddy little kid look across his face. That was a funny sight! He clearly enjoyed spanking my a$$, but it was FUN! So, I gave him a thumbs up out the window(my tints are too dark to see into my car) and pulled in front of him and then he proceeded to pass me and continue on his way.

I truely have a reconfirmed respect for what an American muscle car can do at truely high speeds, of course it had an EXTRA 100+hp over my Max. After all was said and done, the only thing(besides I should have dropped into 3rd!) was that if I'd put a 100-shot of NOS or a SC and I could have hung, maybe even have beat him, and that look on his face would have been 100X BETTER.

Yeah, third is much better gear on the highway. Fourth and 5th gears are very close to each other, so you don't get that much of a power pickup.
When I used to have 2000 Maxima 5-speed I would always put in 3rd when I was racing someone on the highway, Maxs pulls much harder in that gear.

Yesterday, I was coming home and see two fast cars with brite HIDs aproaching me from back. I take my exit and see those two cars follow me too. We come to the end of the exit, and they right behind me now. It was Audi S4 and brand new M5. They were probably racing before that on the highway. I wish I was a bit back and could have gotten into the race with them I am just hit 1000 miles on the car, so it was time to see what it can do.

That M5 followed, he was probably going my way and I was able to stay in fronr of him, by using other cars as shield object.

It was fun.

 

I tried to top it off on hwy last night, but the damn thing pickes up the speed to slowly. I tried to hit 5500-6000 in 4th gear then shift in 5th, but I was too afraid of cops so had to shut it down at 130. Maybe after installing one Boeing engine I can somewhat improve acceleration...

 

Those are fast, top end and low end. I had a 98 LS1 Formula, I miss that car!! Had it dyno'ed. It made 292 at the rear wheel (about 340 at the crank) it was amazing. I turned 13.7 at the track in a 6 speed with a crappy (2.5 i think) 60 foot. As fast as the Max is it's no comp for an LS1.

I came in here expecting a "I beat up on that crappy American car story." That's the impression I get around some of these import car boards. I miss the rumble of that V8, but don't miss having a coupe and the high insurance. That's why I bought the Max, best of both worlds. Does that make me old?

Boy, did that bring back the old days! About a year and a half ago I had to sell my Ram Air Transam as the wife was not thrilled with a lowered car and close to 400 horses in Florida rain. I miss the sound that car made more than my 1st car, a 1969 Mustang Mach 1. The car had Lingenfelter Heads, SLP headers, Roller Rockers, Dynomax exhaust, and 3.73's. Still can close my eyes, and remember lighting them up and standing completely still, as the car could not get a hint of traction. My wife will always be there and I would die for her, but my Pontiac will always be my best friend and a memory that I will never forget ! (Growing up sure hurts but Maxima's make it a little easier )

 

Weird... I have no problem getting mine up to ~140 between speed traps even.
