Remember me? Need help on a 95 GLE going up 4 auction tomorrow! (Carfax too please :)

Hey all? Remember me? I came here a while back asking you all about 4th Gens as I was looking to sell my BMW and cop a GLE 4th gen. Well now I may be able to get a Maxima and keep the Bimmer. Here is the deal.

IAA (Insurance Auto Auctions) has a 95 Maxima that is going up on the auction block tomorrow. The Maxima (GLE) is a 95 with 90,846 miles. The interior and exterior are in excellent shape. The only problem, the car was a theft recovery and the ignition is screwed (more on this later). The Vin: JN1CA21D4ST639025 Can someone please run this?

The auction house hotwires the cars with messed up ignitions on the day of the auction so I'll only have a limited time to check out how the engine runs but I don't anticipate any problems. I did all the basic stuff and the car looks like a gem...key word: looks.

What should I look for tomorrow when then fire the car up? How loud should the engine be? Where should the idle be at? I'd appreciate any basic help that I could use tomorrow to judge if the car is running right.

Finally, back to the ignition... The key goes in and the whole module turns but nothing happens. The module has a lot of play and there really is no resistance between key positions nor does it spring back from 3 to 2. What could be the problem and how much is this to fix? How easy is it to fix (Can I do it myself)?

BTW: All you guys in AZ better watch out. I'm dropping a 2.8 aluminum block M50 engine into the E30 this summer. 13 second 1/4 times.

2 things here. First, change your name, it's disrespectful and ditch the sig pics (nice car though).

Anyway, be weary of recovered thefts. People steal cars for 2 reasons. 1 being to strip for parts (not your case) and 2 to joyride and beat the living s**t out of it. You know that car was driven hard.

Maximas can take a beating though. If it looks good, grab it but look for paneling being loose on the interior (if they stole the stereo system) because auctioneers will buy stock parts to sell it but a lot of the tabs/screws may be broken. Thiefs aren't too gentle when it comes to removing stereo components.

The best ones to get are recovered drug dealer cars from those unfortunate to be caught with the key of coke. Nice cars and good deals.....

There's only one thing I have to say that disagrees with that...when it comes to a car recovered from a drug bust, be wary of the interior condition because the interior will be ripped apart during the search...other than that little addition to FJC's comment, i agree with what he had to say

I don't mean to be disrespectful but what is so bad about my name or sig pics? I'm not dissing you guys, hell I want what you guys drive...a 4th gen MaX!

Already checked out the interior and it looks like everything is intact. The driver side door speaker panel is coming off but the speaker is sill there and doesn't look like it has jockeyed with.

I'm most concerned about the ignition/starter. How much do you think it will cost to fit this?

sorry i don't have an answer about the ignition fix or anything, but i will answer your other question about the name/sig...i don't have a problem with the name, he might have just been pointing at the fact that you have a bimmer name on a maxima site, but no biggie there...but your sig picture has profanity in it, and that's not allowed in this forum, so that's disrespectful...just my viewpoint on that

what to check for

nothing. Before you go call a lawyer and ask him what the return law is on a car you bought from auction. Buy the car, get everything in writing from the auction house before you take it. Then take it to a NISSAN dealer to get inspected dont be cheap pay the money to get it THOROUGHLY looked at cause thats what nissans job is. Then when you find out whats wrong with it. Decide on what you wanna do. The funny thing is that the parts you need can be upgraded to performance parts. Hope this helps...Oh and beemers suck..Change ya name!!!

Please, nobody run this.

Don't be a cheap a$$. If you can afford a car, you can afford $20 to run it yourself.
