2002 v6 altima vs. 2002 se maxima
I once ran a friend with an auto Altima with a auto Maxima SE, from a stop I had him by about one half car length.. From a roll he had me for about one half length.. I started to catch up but we were already going like 30 over the limit so I shut down.. His dad is a cop, so he get the feternal "Get out of jail, any consideration shown towards my son, will be much appreciated by myself" card.. It was pretty even, but I feel the Max is just a little bit quicker..
I have a 2k2 max auto and I did have a run-in with a V6 alti (don't know if it was auto or manual). We were even till about 80-90 mph he even pull on me a little, but once we got above 90 it was good-bye alti. I stated in one of my old post that the 2k2 maxs have a lot of high-end power that really shines above 60-70 mph. So I believe the 2k2 max will win hands down if you get it above 70 mph, any thing lower you will win but it will be to close to call IMO.
But you do have to remember it's all about who is driving at the time.

Well I have a 2k2 auto and i beat a New 3.5 alti by over a car length to 60 both autos. C&D recently tested both the Altima 3.5 and the I35 and the I35 was faster 6.9 to 60 vs. 7.3 for the Alti. Plus the Max is a copule hundred pounds lighter than the I35 so theirs your answer. Heck I remeber back in May of 95 when C&D got a 95SE auto to 60 in 7.3 secs.

The best automatic I30 time MT got was 7.7seconds in their comparision test with the I30, ES300, 3.2TL, Millenia S, C280, 325i. In that test, the Millenia was the fastest.
I would also like the add to MONTE's post, their I35 was also a preproduction model with only about 1200miles on it. Also that the Altima did significantly poorer (I believe it was 8.3seconds, don't quote me) on the 5-60mph street start than the I35, which was still 6.9 seconds.
Re: Screaming VQ
Your close ScreamingVQ they got 8.5 sec for the 5-60mph street start for the 3.5 Altima auto and 6.9 sec was correct for the I35 in the 5-60 mph street start. As far as for the 7.1 for the auto 4th gen I dont know, but C&D in the May 1995 Issue(Romp In the woods) the 4th Gen auto was 7.3 sec to 60 and the 5-60mph street start was 7.8 sec. Also interesting is this comparison the 30-50mph for the 3.5 Alti auto was 4.3 and for the 95 Max auto it was 3.6 sec, top gear 50-70mph for the alti was 4.8 vs 5.0 for the 95 auto. these stats both come from C&D mag.

Top speed from that was also 123mph.

I remember hearing the v6 Altima would beat the Max by like a second. It was in one of those car magazines. Of course i have no idea if they put anything in those cars they used. I hope i'm wrong

Ehh... the politics behind these magazine times is horrendous...
There are common mortals here with timeslips showing <6 seconds 0-60 on stock 2k2 6spd maximas... any idea what dismal times the "professional gods of car magazines" get from the SAME FRIGGIN CAR?
Perhaps they just can't drive, do not know how to dis-engage the e-brake... in either case, they are smoking something else in publishing some of the numbers I've seen....

Same engine (with the Maxima having an alleged 15hp benefit, which translates to about 4hp hitting the street from the dynos I've seen), same tranny, nearly identical weight, essentially same size wheels ...
it would come down to how well the driver manipultes the throttle.

Tell me where these tracks are that give you your 0-60mph time. Ethan (Emax) is the one that's timed his 0-60 in his 2k2. He did that with a G-Tech. He got a 5.8 0-60 (I believe). Let me just say I don't trust the G-Techs one bit. On NUMEROUS occasions, track and street, a borrowed G-Tech says I'm running 5.8-6.0 0-60s and low 14s@100mph+. Look at my sig, am I running low 14s at well over 100mph
