Has anyone removed the painted part of their side view mirrors???
I did a touch up job and I want to take them off the do the job right. Will I need to remove the whole mirror or does the painted part pop out somehow?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.
I had a taxi clip and crack my left mirror once while I was parked in NYC. He paid for everything. Anyways, when I got the replacement mirror, that painted part was un-painted. I had it painted with the un-painted sections taped off. It looked like its a one piece unit. If you take it apart, you may have quite a time getting it back together again.

Oh yeah, I guess I should have mentioned that
But yeah, the 3 screws hold it to the door. Once those are off, you can take the entire mirror out. You do need to take off the door panel to get at those screws, though.
I thought you were trying to take the painted back cover off of the mirror while the mirror stayed put, so to speak.

I looked at the schematics on how to remove the whole mirror and it looks like 3 screw hold it on from the inner part of the door. I'll just remove the whole mirror then if what I explained is true.

I painted my mirror by covering the unpainted stuff with tape and newspaper too. It might be possible to take the unpainted part off, but I dont' think it's worth the trouble. I think if you take the mirror out, and maybe the motor too(?), there's some screws or something that hold it on. One of my mirrors was smashed last year..I forget exactly what held it together though

Well, that's what I was hoping for. It would be nice to just pop out the painted part. I'm looking to do this the easiest way. If I have to, I'll just paint them while on the car.
