Got my 2K2 6-speed HLSD!!!
Got my 2K2 6-speed HLSD!!!
As many of you may remember, I ordered my 2K2 HLSD 6-speed at the end of November... Well, I got it Monday night!!! Just to refresh, here's what I ordered:
Majestic Blue / Black Cloth
Bose Audio System
Meridian Edition
Front Side-Impact Air Bags
Power Glass Sunroof
Helical Limited Slip Differential
Carpeted Floor Mats
Splash Guards
In the short time I've had it, I've come to a few conclusions... First, even though I haven't come anywhere near flooring it (under 3,500rpm for me during break in), it has TONS OF TORQUE!!! Second, I love all of the creature comforts such as the heated cloth seats and steering wheel. Third, the HID headlights are AMAZING!!! And finally fourth, the HLSD really, really works great!!! I live in the Chicago area and we've had really crappy weather (sub-zero temperatures and snow) the last few days, but the HLSD has really done an excellent job putting the power to the ground and keeping the car stable...
A fellow co-worker of mine who drives a loaded BMW 530i was commenting on how much he likes the interior and that heated steering wheel
What really gets him is the fact that my car was nearly half the cost of his
I have no specific complaints with the car and don't think that I could have gotten a better car for me for the money!!!
To those of you still waiting for your cars, it's worth the wait and you won't be disappointed!!!

Just bought one around 10 am this morning. Black on black cloth SE 6spd with the pwr. sunroof, splashguards, and mats. No Bose or leather, but the price of $24K flat was a steal. Still breaking it in though. Can't wait!

Yay!!Awesome!!
kevc5 My 2 - 3 shift sucks the big one too! Especially when cold, it really clunks in there. I thought it was a clutch adjustment thing, but this hydraulic setup, has no provisions for fine tuning, :-P Service manager took it for a boot and of course it wouldn't do it. He admits when its cold it's "normal" to be hard to shift.
He basically said that it's under warranty (& I got the extended 6 year 160,000 km (100,000 mile) and that they don't rebuild trannies here in Canada, they just replace the whole assembly. So if it gets worse, to bring it back in. Yupper!! Got that right.

I'd say that I've noticed some "notchyness" with the 2-3 shifts as well, but I think it may just be a factor of the cold temperatures or may just be inherent in the transmission. I wouldn't call it terrible, but it doesn't shift as well as the Honda's I've owned in the past. Might go to Redline MTL, but we'll see if it works itself out on its own first... Either way, I'm not too concerned about it because the car just does so much else well
Congrats to everybody else who already has Maxima's, has 2K2's already, or is waiting for their 2K2 to arive!!!

Re: Congrats!!
I spoke with the service manager at my dealer yesterday and he said that it takes a while for the shifter to break in, approx 7500 miles. I will take it back at 7501 miles if has not improved by then!!

Clutch is adjustable!!!!
Dealers and mechanics telling people that hydraulic clutches is a con - or laziness! If you look under the dash at the pedal assembly you will see a length adjustable rod going into the master, and the upper and lower stops are also adjustable. Plenty of adjustment.
BTW, gearboxes do seem to take a long time to break in, 7500 - 10k mi.
Synthetic gear oil helps a lot with the cold weather stiffness in gearboxes that use gear oil (some manuals use ATF) - think what 90wt oil looks like at 10F - grease!

Re: Clutch is adjustable!!!!
Could a notchy shifter be the result of an improperly adjusted clutch?

Not saying it will not work/help...but at least by using the MT90, you will be matching what Nissan says is required and get the benefits of using synthetic.

Oh yeah, I did come up with something I don't like about the car... The turning radius sucks compared to other cars I've owned in the past!!! Maybe I should have gotten the GXE with the automatic transmission and the 16" wheels instead

exactly. ive had the car for 2 days and ive noticed that the turning radios is pretty poor. im almost scared when i pull into a parking space (with the crappy turning radius and the fact that this is my first manual car ever.) the explorer i had before my last maxima definitly had better turning radius than my 2k2.
