Wiring Radar detector to electrical system? Help

Wiring Radar detector to electrical system? Help

Hey im not that great with electrical stuff, so help would be apprecited. I want to connect a wire to somewere else in my car to power my radar detector, so i can free up my cigarette lighter. Any ideas what to wire it to, im sure any 12v wire, but were is a good place??? thanks

I wired mine to the map lights and attached....

The detector just in front of the sun visor.

So do you have to have the lights on to make it work, or is there just constant power going there. Sorry for my stupidity

just run it through the defroster vents to the back of the cig lighter

and connect it to the cig lighter power (not the light power) and it will be on whenver the car is on, thats what I did, way better than having a wire across your dash

The power is always there regarless of light is on. The vent idea is good also but I like to have my detector closer to ideal and off the dash area.

Wire radar detector

Behind the passenger kick panel (in my 93 SE 5-sp) there are two unused connectors. One of the wires (you'd have to find it) has IGN power. That is where I wired mine. That means it's off when the car is off, and it does not cycle when you crank the engine as it stays powered.

thats an amazing idea putting it up on the map lights
i hate that damn cord always rightin the way of shifting
