Performance tires wanted but drive on highway a lot
Performance tires wanted but drive on highway a lot
I drive 140miles a day, mostly being highway miles, but I love
to mess around on the backroads. I was planning on getting Kuhmos, i hear they are good, but how are they on the highway? Will they be louder and give a more rough ride? Does highway driving eat up the rubber on performance tires?
Maybe i would be better off with all season tires?
Thanks for the help

Re: Performance tires wanted but drive on highway a lot
I've had Kumho Ectsa 712s for 25,000 miles. Still very quiet on the highway. Best bang for the buck by far at 100/tire in 225/45/17. W rated. I had Pirelli P7000SSs before. They were good, too, but as time went on they got loud! The Pirellis had the best tire wear rating, like 320, the Kumhos are close at 280, I beleive. This means that the Priellis would have lasted the longest, but with that road roar they produced, who cares!

Seriously, don't worry about the noise or handling. Take your new tires out on the NJ Tpk and you'll love 'em. Parallel parking is diff, you gots to be a little more careful. Good luck in your search.
Noise level depends a lot on what profile the tire is.. Lower profile tires tend to be noisier, they are stiffer too, ride will suffer, but on smooth highway roads, lower profile tires, or performance tires are a lot more stable an fund
What size rim are you putting these on? I'd say you'd be satisfied with all-season performance tires... Performance doesn't have to be only a summer tire... Look at tirerack and check out the tire ratings on the charts. I got a set of high performance Dunlop All season Sport A2s... they grip like glue and are absolutely silent. All i hear on the highway is wind noise... pavent is not noticeable at all. I start to get drowsy coming back from work at night

I have the Kumho 712's now, and I can say that they are much better than the Dunlop SP5000's I used to have. Both were size 235/45/17.
The Dunlops are excellent tires, and can pretty much tackle anything. Never tried them in snow though. The Kumhos are stickier, take corners more confidently, and are great in the rain due to the wide center groove. As far as noise, I have no complaints with either tire.
