Stock alarm/security system on max question!

I have a 1995 Gle, i just put a TV in my car, its mounted on my dash, so im getting a bit paranoid that if someone walkig by sees the TV there ganna want to steal it. i didnt tint my front windows at all, so they can see in perfectly and i dot want to, b/c in NJ they really crack down on tint. I was wondering that if anyone knows that if a window is broken or in any case if my TV is stolen would my alarm go off? Im pretty sure it would ONLY go off if the car is broken in throught the door itself. Im getting really paranoid about this now im starting to think to put VIPER on my car, wihich means more MONEY.Thanx

The stock alarm is not going to protect your contents at all. The stock alarm only goes off at an attempt to drive the vehicle off, basically. You need to both tint the window and get an aftermarket alarm. I doubt the alarm and install is going to cost you as much as the TV and install did. So which one do you think should be protected?

Sorry to tell you but the stock OEM alarm will only go off if the doors were opened. Breaking a window will not trigger it. Get the new Viper alarm with shock or infrared sensor for the best protection.

He owns a 4th gen 1995 Maxima. No shock sensor included from factory. Only voltage sensors to trip the alarm. This only happens if your light/door was opened. If not then you will be out of luck. Get yourself an aftermarket alarm to protect your car from break ins and wheel jacking.

The infos are from a very reliable. Saw too many stock cars getting broken into and then end up getting a Viper alarm from my friend's shop. Most manufacturers do not spend the extra buck to put in a shock sensor into their cars. Even the Acura TL members have to put in their own shock sensors into the new 2000-2002 TL. Unless a current/voltage is tripped the alarm will be set off. Maybe they set off something when they broke your window.

The factory alarm is only triggered by voltage from the pin switches. The alarm will not go off with just breaking the window. I have to agree with previous thread by saying that the breaking of the window must have been followed by opening the door to set it off. The factory alarm offers minimal protection for the car itself and no protection for contents. Bottom line is, Why spend hundreds and even thousands of dollars for upgrades inside your car and then try and ask a "factory" alarm to protect it? Buy a reputable aftermarket alarm with shock and proximity sensors and even pain generators and sleep better at night. My 2 cents.

The best way to protect your car (legally) is to use what police call "tiered protection." Basically, you want the thief to have to break through multiple levels of security if they want to steal your car. Basically, the involves parking in a safe well lit area, keep valuables out of sight, install a steering wheel lock, and have an alarm with starter disable. I've seen many cars with $400 alarm systems stolen because their owners think their fancy alarm will deter thieves. It doesn't. Being a smart car owner will deter thieves. If you go blasting your stereo all the time and drive around with neon lights all over your car, you will attract attention, and it's a good chance your hopped up car will become a theft target.

You make several good points here. People need to realize that most auto theft is a crime of opportunity. So, the more you guard against giving the thief an easy mark, the better off you'll be. BTW people, steering wheel locks do not work, they are easily defeated, if you want to lock out anything there is one product that locks the brake pedal down (not from the steering wheel) that would probably work. The best advice is to layer the security as stated and make it increasingly difficult to penetrate each layer. Bottom line though, If a determined thief wants your stuff, he's gonna get it. Best bet is try and prevent by not trying to show off every min of the day and attract attention to yourself. BTW, big stereo and aftermarket go fast stickers attract a butt load of attention.
