Is it really, and why would it be?

I would agree that a CAI is louder than a short air or pop and I'll tell you why. Usually when you get the CAI you install the upper section. This upper section removes the second sound resonator from the air intake path. I have a Stillen POP and liked the sound it made however, in an effort to clean up the engine bay; I installed a breather element, elimating one hose, and removed the resonator, which eliminated the plastic box just after the MAF but between the battery and engine, and capped it off with a 1 1/2" plumbing cap. So now my car is louder and more comprable to a CAI as far as sound is concerned. I didn't do it for the sound but got it as a result. Now my engine bay is less cluttered and I can easily get to things if I need to.

I thought the Frankencar intake was the upper section of the CAI w/ a pop located inside the engine bay???? So it would still be as loud as a CAI??? Or do you all think the CAI is louder becasue it's inside of the fender? I was just mentioning my experience - I don't wish to make my car any louder. Don't need to give cops a reason to look for me.

I have a HYBRID intake like many others here

I have a 5sp with JWT (minus) resonator and I have been in a automatic with CAI the sound is very similar. If the CAI sounds louder it might be because the sound of the cone echoing throughout the fender wall.

It is extremely loud both inside and outside the car. It can turn heads about 2 blocks away. I feel power at around 3000 rpm, but once it gets to 4000 rpm, it just screams to redline very quickly and pulls HARD. It has a beautiful sound. It has the gurgle sound that comes from the popcharger with a deep, whine noise created by the pipe. When its coupled with the high pitched hiss from the Budget Y-pipe, you would swear I have a turbo. I wish I had a muffler now.

Short ram is louder from the driver seat. I don't know which will be louder from the outside.

It sounds like a CAI w/o drilling a hole and turning it sideways...?

thanks for the info guys, i am still thinking about which setup to go with. I want the cai for its good low end power and i also would love the high end of a pop. This franken style intake seems to have the best of both worlds, am i right? Do you still get cai type bottom end with a pop high end?

Yup that would be you!!! There was so much info about the CAI being sooo loud I expected the sound to be deafening. The CAI is louder than the JWT but once the resonator is removed the sounds are similar.

The battery to the trunk thing was easy. I just used my 4-guage power cable from my stereo and connected the battery at the other end. Then you just need to find a good ground. In my case, I used the hole in the middle of my spare tire well and drove a bolt through it. I still haven't mounted the battery permanently because I still have other projects going on, but since its an Optima, it'll be okay. As for the intake, by making the pipe a little longer, you can tap into some low end rpm. If you go too long, you'll lose high end. I started out too long, and cut the pipe back until I reached a medium. I now have low end torque, the car revs fast as hell, and my high end is enough to tail some turbo cars.

I'm working on that right now. I'll probably order one next week. I found a cool exhaust shop right around the corner, in Gwinnett, that also refills N2O bottles. How convinient, huh? Anyway, I talked to the guy and he said he would charge $50 to put on the Ypipe. He also does custom work. I'm going to hook up with him to do the install and maybe more...dunno.

All you guys waiting for the frankencar intake, take a look at my GD for the Weapon R intake. It's basically the same thing, exept more color variety, and cheaper.

Why don't you email them instead of making assumptions and dissing them here? The intake is HELLA LOUD, and sounds very similar to the PR CAI. The prototype 4th gen sounds almost exactly like the PR CAI. Upon speaking with Matt and Steve, they have been having a lot of troubles getting their welder to do the work they paid him to do, and that is why the 4th gen intake isn't out yet.

Couldn't all of us with the CAI make a frankencar intake by removing the lower portion of piping? It seems to me that this setup would be the same as what you're all talking about. Then we could see which way is louder and which offers better performance in the high/low end. I think I am going to give it a try this afternoon.

yes and no. materials are very different. FC uses metal, and PR uses PVC piping basically.

I don't know about your PR-CAI, but mine is definitely made out of metal and not PVC. I'm not sure whether it's aluminum or steel, but its metal.

really? I don't have one, but my friend's was definitely plastic! o_O And I know it was PR.

Anyhoo, I think there are differences in curve/width to the PR versus the FC, but I haven't had both side by side.

Someone said the FC intakes sound silly...I find that to be dissing, but also funny, because they sound really similar to the CAI.

Email Matt or Steve via their website. They also have a forum for support on there too. They're good kids.
