I just painted my grill body colored, pics and info inside

I was painting my new franken ram piece body colored and decided to pain my grill too! A few weeks back I has a local paint shop make a high end spray paint can of color matched paint(sterling mist). So I removed my grill by removing the 3 little ten MM bolts. I used masking tape to cover my nissan emblem so that paint would not get on it and then I fired away, 1 coat 2 coat and then a I hit it up with a few coats of clear coat. The result is incredible! It looks like a profesional job, the paint matches very niceley too!

Heres some pics(not the greatest). I took pics of me doing the whole thing too but I had my flash off so they came out horrible.

I must say that you've made quite a nice amount of changes since I saw your green 95 Max at the Mass meet. You're doing a hell of a job on your 2k2. Keep up the good work, bro!

Looks awesome!

Does the 2k2 grille remove easier than a 2k-2k1?

Just a suggestion, you could go to www.paintscratch.com and they can match your paint and put it in a spray can. This is how I painted my plastic valvehead cover. Pic is in my sig.

im about to do this to my car too. a body shop at home quoted me $93 to paint the grill if i took the grill off myself and took the emblem off (does it even come off?) i havent gotten a chance to ask any other body shops yet. how much was the paint and clear coat all together?

The paint ran me about $32(every paint mix is diffeent though), they also gave me a paint jar of body colored paint too. The shop is called "Providence Lacquere & supply center inc", I don't know the # ands I'm not sure if they ship. The paint they use I think is called Dupont, the same paint Nasscar uses.

I don't know how the 00-01 grill is attached. My grill has 3 10 mm bolts holding it on and a few clips. Just remove the 3 bolts and pull really hard and it pops off, it took about 5 minutes to do.

I will get some pics of the ram tomarrow once it's installed. My orange lights are not back in the headlights, I have orange bulbs in there so the flash makes it look all orangy. I wanted to keep it legal.

The emblem does not come off to my knowledge, just use some masking tape and seal it off. The paint and clear coat was about $40, the paint job looks proffesional.

Next up.. body colored headlights

Thanks for all the complements guys!

Heres a lousy pic of just before I started painting, if you look closely you can see how I taped the emblem up.

2k/2k1 grill doesnt come off period people have said. the grill and bumper are supposedly all one piece.

Thin out some silver paint and put it on there. It should cover the orange but the light will still shine through. They make bulbs like this but I don't know if they have them in that size. They're made by Phillips and they're called Silver Visions. They would look killer in your ride

Thanks for the advice Mike. I was thinking about doing that but I need to find a place that sells translucent silver paint first .

i just went to some body shops here at school. some little place called Dan's Body Shop quoted me $85 but he couldnt do it until April 10th. After that i went to the Chevrolet dealer here and their body shop told me $45 or $50 and they can do it on monday. a body shop at home told me $93. soooooooooo, looks like im going to Chevrolet.

pretty inexpensive and i have a feeling it will improve the looks of the car a lot. emax's definitely looks nice.

Theres 4 clips on a 96 grill, you just have to unclip it. You can buy color matched paint from http://www.paintscratch.com (as said above). The time it will take is dependent on how quick you are.

Tip for the 95-96 guys. Look at the nissan emblem. See the hole there? Insert flat head screw driver and twist 1/4 turn.

man
your car is F-in sweet. I love every little thing you did to it, I wouldn't do it any differnt if I had it Great job.

By the way, I painted my stock chrome 98 GXE grille black.. I used **** paint for it too, and surprisingly it held up pretty well.. i had to give it some touch up sprays here and there twice, because of tiny chips.. but I used a primer and a flexible bumper and moulding trim black paint from Pepboys, didn't even use clear coat.. came out really nice..

is the chrome part of the 4th gen GXE grills similar in material/coating as the chrome window trim on the 5th gens? i wanted to get mine painted black but the body shop told me that it wouldnt adheer very well and would probably flake off.
