20 Inch Rims on 97 maxima!

How is this possible? Is this safe or will it damage the car?

Re: 20 Inch Rims on 97 maxima !

1. Go to your local speed shop.
2. Drop some serious cash.
3. Go home driving on dubs.

It's that simple.

Safe..Would driving on dubs kill you? Maybe...if you drive the car in some ghetto *** neighborhood and someone decide he wants them. He sticks a gun in your face and blows your head off.

Damage the car? Yeah..if you throw the dubs at the car and they happen to land on the hood.

I've always heard that 18's are as largest that the Max could handle with rubbing. Just wanted to know if anyone has 20's and if they've had any problems with them.

there was a thread a while back about someone who had 21" chromes on his white max...cost him about 7 big ones i think...but that was after moving up from dubs, and to fit the 20s, i think he had to roll back the fenderwall to fit them into the wheelwell...search for that thread, i think it was max79 or something, not too sure...but it's there somewhere

i got 18's and I KNOW for certain you can fit 19's, 20's and PROBABLY bigger but i doubt...there's a lot of spacing between tire and car....as long as u don't drop or anything, you can fit 20's

Roll your fenders and you'll be fine. 19" is the biggest you can put on the car without rubbing. 20" tires don't come in the right size for a Maxima. I may have to borrow some 20"s to put on my car for a photo shoot. But I would never get them permanently. It really doesn't look right on the car.

Plus, if you roll on dubs permanently as a daily driver...i hope your roads are perfectly smooth and no potholes...otherwise you'll be bending something real fast

My 18's i think are perfect size for the maxima (18.7.5 with a 235/40/18). My old Monsoons were 17" and were too small in the huge wheel well we have.

20's+ would be dumb for a daily driver, but not dumb just for shows

Actually with the tire sizes currently available, my 19"s have less sidewall than 20"s do. The rolling diameter is much bigger with 20"s. The ones I've seen have sidewalls about the same height as 18"s.

the max wheel well is soooo big.. 19s only do it justice and it could still go bigger, but for a daily driver 20's would be no fun.

Can any tell me if 17x9 would fit on the rear of a 95 max. Or is that too wide of a choice....

20s would definitely hurt performance and handling. i wouldn't recommend anything bigger then 19s. another thing you should look into is road conditions in your area. if your road conditions are not suitable for larger rims, your safer with 18s. expect to pay a pretty penny too for the larger rims. good luck on your decision!

whats the biggest tire you could put on a max that has 19x8 wheels with a 35mm offset? the most i have seen is a 235/35, i would like to put 245/35. my wheels should be in soon.

There's a guy that works by me that has a 95 or 96 Max sittin on 20in. rims. He said he dropped it an inch and a half and he told me that the only time it rubs is when he make a U-turn. I think 20in. rims are too big. The largest I'll go is 18in.

They would fit with the right offset. I'm actually planning on getting 17x9.5's this weekend. I test fitted them last weekend and they fit perfectly. the back actually could go with a 10" wide rim, but then you couldn't rotate tires as the front is pretty maxed out at 9.5". btw, the tires were wrapped on kumho 265/40/17's all around. only very slight rubbing on the front tires at a full turn. nothing a few cuts on the plastic mudguard can't take care of.
Good luck and go for it.

I have 19x8.5s and they dont rub at all and they still are the same diameter as stock with my 235/35-19s
and they looks SWEEET
my 18s are 18x8 with 245/40-18s

I think 20"s is a lil bit too big to drive on everyday... especially on crappy roads like SoCal

also getting HEAVY rims (chromies or 20s) will put alot of stress on ur suspension causing stuff to break and wear out alot quicker

Why 20's those cost alot of money and they are very heavy, have you ever picked one up? try it, your car wont be no faster then a Honda civic DX. Seriously. Go with a lighter smaller wheel, 18 is ideal size thats what I have. But if your banking like that and can afford to be a regular at the local chevron station (Depending on the way you drive) then knock yourself out, yes your gas mileage will go down, and when your tires wear down prepare yourself to pay well over $200 for one tire. Decision is up to you now, if your determened you will get them. Someone here has 22's he did have to roll his fenders.

i would seriously go with 18's and call it a day, that's what I did. 20's are great if you plan on having car for show, meaning you have another car you plan to drive on a daily basis. I would only get 20's if i have a good car similar to speed with maxima and i'll just bring maxima with 20's when there is a meet just to show all these guys that i be "ROLLING ROLLIN ROLLIN" haha
