Best Repair Manual for 98 max
Quick question...which is the best repair/service manual for my 98 maxima?
I see the haynes manual for 93 - 99 maxima.
Isn't the 93 a differnt car from the 95+
and I had a 90 and a 91 maxima...they do not seem different than the 93...so is this the best book>
Thanks

The Factory Service Manual will be the best repair manual but if you are looking for a comparison of the FSM, Haynes and Chilton manual see:

Re: Best Repair Manual for 98 max
95 to 99 are the Gen 4 Maximas.
89 to 94 are the Gen 3 Maximas.
All the Gen 3 Maximas are the same except for the 92-94 Maxima SE
The 92 to 94 Maxima SE is a Gen 3 Maxima with a more powerful 190 hp engine than the standard 160 hp engine in all other Gen 3 Maximas.
By the way, that 190 hp Gen 3 engine is not the same as the 190 hp engine in the 95-99 Maxima. the 95-99 Maxima has the 1st generation VQ engine, the VQ30DE, one of the 10 best engines in the world, according to Ward's auto world
The more I try to clear things up, the more confusing it looks, but I hope you get the gist of it.

Thanks for the post...I should have worded my question more as a comment....I actually owned a 90 maxima and currently have a 91 BROUGHAM and a 98 max se...so I am aware of the difference...>Thanks though
I guess I am going with the Haynes manual...just bought it off of Chapters.ca for $17 CDN.
Doing my brakes for the first time.

I like my Haynes. Just did my brakes - it was very helpful.
Only one thing was missing in the manual for that job:
Front brake caliper-pins position of "grooved pin" vs. "smooth pin"
Btw, the grooved pin belongs in the top part of the caliper, the smooth one in the bottom.
(This won't matter to you unless you plan to completely disassemble your brakes & not keep track of where these pins go, like I did).
Anyway, someone on the .org here saved the day as my car was apart in the driveway, so remember, if you're up to your elbows in it & you get in a jam, there are a lot of helpful Max-sters here!
