Probably, if you have a rotary engine since the engine burns the oil intentionally.

I am not a fan of the pricey fully synthetic oils. I do like the synthetic advantage though, so I use Castrol Synthec Blend on mine. 1/2 the price of synthetic, and I can afford to change the oil every 3500-3750 miles.

I can see where this thread is heading, so no comment other than synthetic is NOT bad for your car.

Local shop guy is an idiot and has no idea what he's talking about. You still want to take advice from him?

The shop the "local guy" works for probably doesn't carry synth oil or something. Simply put, ANY synthetic is better than ANY non-synthetic, period. To say that synthetics are bad for your car is an uneducated statement. It is not recommended to switch to it if the car has LOTS of miles on it because it will clean most of the internal sludge that builds up and can cause some minor gasket leaks but it will still lubricate better. All commercial aircraft are required to use it in their engines by the FAA and those turbines turn WAY, WAY more RPM and generate a lot more heat than any reciprocating engine.

Do yourself a favor and research the advantages of synthetic oils before you decide on what type of oil to use.

Stick with the Nissan filter though. It is one of the best you can buy for any price.

Price of synthetics? Walmart is selling 5 quart jugs of Mobil 1 for around $17.00. Stock and save.

Aircraft are kinda weird. No turbine engine out there is approved for conventional oil, it has to be synthetic. On the other hand, PISTON engines cannot use a full synthetic, as Mobil 1 found out the hard way.

FYI, the average speed of a large turbine engine is the 30,000 rpm range. The little turboshaft engines that are used for the auxilliary power units spin up to 60,000 rpm.
